The New Orleans Pelicans have made a four-year offer to Tyreke Evans worth $48 million. Sam Amick reports the deal at $44 million, but David Aldridge has $48 million.

The Pelicans plan on using Evans as a deluxe sixth man similar to the way the San Antonio Spurs use Manu Ginobili, according to Sean Deveney of the Sporting News.

Evans is a restricted free agent, giving the Sacramento Kings the opportunity to match.

Evans was the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year.

Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports that Evans will meet with the Kings at 8:00 PM EST. Evans could agree to an offer sheet with the Pelicans shortly after the Kings' meeting depending on how it goes.

The deal could become a sign-and-trade should Evans decide to join the Pelicans.

Man, I really really don't get this. They just traded for Holiday and still obviously have Gordan. Unless they already have a deal in place for Gordan, they will be spending $36mill on their guard rotation?

This makes even less sense than Josh Smith to Detroit.

Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans is a very interesting backcourt combination.

Big physical athletic guards with well-rounded skill-sets. Exciting.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think it's safe to say that the Rondo for DMC/Evans rumors are officially going to come to an end.

This is honestly a terrible terrible idea for the Pelicans.

NOR will be regretting that contract in about a year.

I actually like the idea of using him in the Ginobili-type role.  I don't know if I like paying him the same amount of money as Ginobili has typically made recently for about 70-80% of his production.

I like that NOH is making a legit move of getting some good, somewhat-proven, young talent in place this offseason.  Reminds me somewhat of what Denver and Golden State have done.  Not there yet, of course, but still room to make more moves this offseason and next.

  • Everyone's excited for the new era.
I actually like the idea of Evans in New Orleans, but not at that price.

Holiday and Gordon move well without the ball, and are very good spotting up, which compliments Evans' driving ability.

If Davis can bulk up enough to play the five spot, Anderson can move into the starting lineup, adding another shooter for Evans to kick to.

Holiday
Gordon
Evans
Anderson
Davis

That could be a dangerous offensive lineup as well as a pretty good defensive lineup.

That is awful, they will never win anything with contracts like that to players like that.

Wow, if I were him I'd be rushing to sign that thing before they have a change of heart.  Maybe waiting until July 12th to make any moves is a good thing, let teams waste all their money and pick up good role guys for cheap money after.

Smart move on NO's behalf... They're stockpiling AS caliber players.

Davis, Gordon, Holiday, Anderson, and Evans are players that have an excellent shot at being All Stars in the future of their respective careers. Other than Golden State, there isn't another team that can seriously boast that at this time.

If they can be coached into a cohesive unit on Off and Def, they can be a 7-8 seed this upcoming year and make an OKC-like progression into the playoffs especially if they avoid being injury-plagued.

At the very least they are valuable assets that can garner the "right" player(s) if there are chemistry issues.

Sacramento might not match after drafting McLemore; they should though. You don't lose an asset unless it's absurdly overpriced (Evans isn't at $12M a year).

Evans also serves as the Pelicans' insurance plan for Gordon.
