Celtics get:
Iman Shumpert
Amar'e Stoudemire

Knicks get:
Gerald Wallace (once his trade restriction expires)
Brandon Bass
Courtney Lee

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CELTICS:
They consolidate 3 long-term deals into one (i.e. Stoudemire) but get a young player as a sweetener to the deal (i.e. Shumpert). Considering that all 3 players they deal away are role players, I figure Ainge may be willing to take on Amare if he doesn't give up an essential building block and also acquires a possible piece to add to the foundation like Shumpert.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE KNICKS:
They're going for it now and need pieces to add around 'Melo and Chandler. They just acquired Bargnani so now they need depth and some help on the perimeter. This deal accomplishes that. Lee is a quality defensive wing who can start at 2G. Wallace has a terrible year, but is still a solid 3/4 with good defensive instincts. He and 'Melo would be a formidable combo since they can inter-change at the forward positions. Bass provides energy and rebounding off the bench.

Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

The knicks would never do that.

Change the title to Not Good Idea.   Amare is damaged goods.   Why would we want him?

I like the trade if we go into full blown rebuild mode. Otherwise, it completely saps our financial flexibility if an opportunity arises where we can retool and contend soon. I know that in 2 years, Amare will be an expiring, but he's going to be making a whopping $23.4M. Barring the perfect marriage, it'll be very difficult finding a team that is able to absorb that $23.4M expiring.

I would do that if I were the Knicks, and I also think I would do that if I were the Celtics.

I guess I see it as a win/win.

TP to Bleedgreen,

I almost never see a trade idea that I both like and find realistic.

Hate the trade for the players,but....

We would free up 20 mill, putting our cap from 44 to around 25 million if Im not mistaken...

If theres some one you want next season would be the best way to do it....

Still not up for it though.

The sweetener we get for taking Amare is Shumpert. I'm a huge fan of Shunpert and would love to add him to this core.

I like Shump, but he's not worth A'mare.

Glad all these trades are just ideas.

Don't like stoudemire's contract. Dude is an overpaid bench warmer. He can't stay healthy. And I wouldn't want no part of Shumpert's flattop.

I don't think the Knicks do this unless they're sure Amar'e's cooked.  He showed enough flashes after coming back that they'll probably see him as worth keeping him around, and it's not like they of all teams can't afford him.

We'd also be taking their best perimeter defender, which I don't think they'd be too enthused about.

I like this trade a lot but I'd have to see a draft pick from NYK to take on Amare. His contract is widely known as the worst in the league. It's 100% uninsured (and uninsurable) and on top of that he's been nothing but a drag for them. They get capable perimeter players on reasonable deals and we get a broken PF on the league's worst max contract.

If they include Shump and a future #1 I'm in for taking Amare. I think he is cooked and I wouldn't deal anything worthwhile for him. If they pay me to take him like they were rumored to have been offering I'd do it.

Yes, please, let's exchange a couple bad contracts for an even worse one.

Are you guys forgetting Wallace is in the deal?

Amare only has 2 years left. Wallace and Lee each have 3.

Plus we get Shump on top? Seems like a no-brainer for Boston.

The Knicks wouldn't do this without having to throw in Shump. Amare when healthy is a beast, and there is only 2 years left on that deal. After 2015, the knicks coud be big players in free agency with Melo signed up. No way they're giving up that flexibility for the likes of overpaid role players in Bass, Lee and especially Wallace.
