The Celtics waived Terrence Williams on Sunday, according to a team release.

The move doesn't come as a major surprise. Williams had a nonguaranteed $947,907 contract for 2013-14, but the first $200,000 was set to become guaranteed after Sunday.

And with an abundance of players heading to Boston once the blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets goes through, the Celtics freed up a roster spot by cutting ties with the 6-foot-6 guard-forward.

Williams, 26, appeared in 24 regular-season games for Boston last season, averaging 4.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He was arrested in May for allegedly brandishing a gun during a visitation exchange with the mother of his child in Kent, Wash., though charges have yet to be filed in the case.

Sorry to he's that, he has potential and was a high draft pick. At the very least, he could handle the ball. Who is the backup PG now?  Please don't say AB, he is out of position there.

I missed the May arrest story. Perhaps that figures in during the "Hernandez" era.

Pressey could be the backup.   We worked him out twice I think.

Non factor move for me. Williams wasn't going anywhere with us, especially after the arrest.

I was pulling for him to remain on tha team. I like TWill. Regardless of what he's been accused of in tha past and his latest story that has yet to prove anything, He's talented. He definitely has potential and I would have liked to see him develop and find his niche in a Celtics jersey.

I wish TWill tha best tho and hope a team (not in Florida) picks him up.

Sad to read that.
T Will has potential to be the best backup PG we can get and afford. We noticed his court vision and his athleticism.
I'm very surprised Danny get rid of him. I'm waiting to see Danny's plan to understand this move, because right now I'm disappointed.

Its a good move, we need to get all the criminals out of professional sports and keep them out.

I would have liked to see T-Will on this rebuilding roster getting an opportunity to try and develop into the player people thought he could be. He didn't do anything all that impressive with the court time he got this season, but I thought he showed some potential and could benefit from some extended minutes and the ability to make mistakes.

I can understand the move though, not only for the money, but if you're trying to rebuild and get younger you don't want to have anybody in the locker room who could be a bad influence or cause trouble.

His talent probably doesn't warrant the risk (especially in the wake of the Hernandez situation).

We signed him already.
