In a first in the history of professional sports, a league official approaches Victor in the green room of the draft and asks him to take off his Google Glass.

Well, it's different from a smart phone for alot of reasons, some for legitimate safety/ privacy issues Google still has time to address, but none germane to the discussion here.

But i think what it comes down to is Google, to my knowledge, is not a marketing partner of the NBA, and thus the NBA was not interested in doing free advertising for Google.

Yes, kids smart phones are from all different companies the NBA doesn't have deals with, but they are mostly cased, and can't be readily identified by someone watching the draft. Nor are they out in plain view when the kid is the focus of attention while shaking Stern's hand.

Everyone knows, on the other hand, that the glass is a Google product. I think this as simple as Google didn't grease the NBA pre draft.

I was thinking the same thing, microsoft is the biggest competitor to google and is also a huge marketing partner of the NBA.

however, google had nothing to do with Oladipo wearing these glasses, a blog simply let him borrow it for the day to see life behind a draftees draft day

My gosh, what will they think of next.  It's like living in a science fiction novel.

I'm glad they didnt let him wear the glasses.  The focus should be on the NBA and their new players.  I dont like the idea of this event being exploited for advertisers any more than it already is.

Maybe it would have been alright if he was drafter by the Seattle Cyborgs or something.

Does David Stern have a bald spot?  Would Oladipo wearing Google Glass give the world a bird's-eye view of Stern's bald spot, if he has one?

Also I imagine that google and the NBA didn't have a pre-existing agreement for the content. The NBA would've had zero ability to influence the final product after it came out, even if they could get it taken down.

Google is a frightening organization.  NBA banning Oladipo gets the glasses more publicity than if he had worn it.  And they got it for free.

Yeah, the free fiber they run in some cities has to scare the heck out of ISPs.

In a perfect world he should refuse or start stripping out of all his clothes on the basis of not wanting to be fined for wearing an unapproved suit

I think Google HQ should be blown up and all their products discontinued. They are a very dangerous organization that is the biggest threat, by far, to our privacy.
