Cap situation - is JSmoove still in play?

Now that Ainge has shipped out the heart and soul of this team, it seems that he may have shipped out good salary as well.  I have no idea how this all sorts out from a cap standpoint.

Can one of the cap experts please tell me if we have any money to spend in free agency now and if Josh Smith and/or Big Al may be in play?

Before you respond, I know that the most likely answer is "No" because their anticipated contracts may be too large for us to take on during a rebuild.

However, call me crazy, but I think we would have an extremely athletic team that can cause a lot of matchup problems with Rondo, Bradley (or Lee), Green and Smith.  That team can flat-out run and play defense.  Bring in someone like Big Al and you have a good low-post player to put along side the other 4 when we are forced to play in the half court.

On the bench, we would still have Sully and Olynyk, which seem to be a good combo offensively (but can use a lot of help defensively).

Last night, it sounded like Humphries is an enticing expiring contract that can be used to bring in other assets.  Would Atlanta do a sign and trade for Humphries, Bass, etc?

Well if we can move Humphries expiring plus spare parts for Josh Smith.  I'd do it.  We might have to throw in Sully though.  But honestly I'd rather have Josh Smith right now than Sully's questionable back, even though he's a hell of a young player to have when healthy.

I actually like Josh Smith but he makes absolutely no sense after last night.

Why not? You get him and you have a very very strong SF-PF rotation to go with a strong guard rotation, and we still have mid-level to attract talent if so desired to solidify our big man rotation... and picking Oly in the draft was a good step towards that, and Sully has shown he can play a few minutes in that position too.

I'm a huge Rondo critic, but I think he's getting way underrated at the moment (though there's uncertainty on how he will return, so there's little basis to the speculation of how he'll play) and how dominant defensively this team could be.

I'd pass, if we are rebuilding, no need to sign a mid-level player just to have it kill our cap. Unless it is a super star that can make us contenders immediately
