Boston should trim somewhere around $7 million off its books in the deal alone, which will help keep it away from the luxury tax line as it reshapes the roster.

I believe this means we have a trade exception. Maybe a potential tyreke Evans sign and trade since kings just got mclemore. Doubtful since Evans can likely command more.

Still another asset for the celtics if we do indeed get one.

Yeah, there's bound to be a decent sized TE resulting from the deal. Won't know until the details come out.

Heard the C's also get the chance to swap 2017 1sts, and Kris Joseph.

Interesting. So what can we do with that if this is true.

Absorb a contract that's less then or equal to the trade exception.

Example Phoenix sends Michael Beasleys contract and a 1st round pick they got from the lakers to Boston for a future 2nd rounder.

The Net's were over the salary cap. They don't have a trade exception to give. There's a difference between saving 7 million and getting a 7 million dollar exception. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure you can't get a trade acception from a team without the capspace.

Dunno if we get a trade exception, but it doesn't matter.  Danny has a TON of options heading forward over the next few years.  It's a masterful display from a GM who knows what he's doing, has perspective, long-term vision... and the guts to pull off controversial deals that casual fans will be unable/unwilling to understand.

Humphries is an expiring contract too... since we're stuck with Wallace for 3 years, we might as well trade Humphries at the deadline to some team looking to dump another terrible 3 year deal... perhaps picking up another pick in the process.   Ainge got a ton of assets/options considering KG and Pierce could be totally out of the league next year.  Or like I said,  Pierce could come back to Boston next year as a free agent and we could hire Kevin Garnett as a coach.   At that point, those assets gon look mighty nice.   Danny just needs to put cotton in his ears for a year ... in retrospect he's going to look like a genius.

TEs are never given by one team to another in a trade. Essentially, they are a by-product of any trade that involves one team taking on more salary than it gives away.

I think the Celtics are unlikely to use it if it means paying luxury tax.

Maybe this year, but trade exceptions last for a year. Next year we will have two firsts and a $7 MM trad exception to work with.

Very well said! I couldn't agree more. My philosophy in all this is, it was time to move on!

Can we give away our trade exception to a team that needs it or?

Not exactly, but we could use it to involve ourselves in a position to facilitate a trade (becoming the third team) and possibly get one or both of those teams to draft picks for our trouble.

So do we have a TE from this trade or no?
