It's probably going to help shorten Simmons TV career, but it was great.  Simmons was right.  I don't disrespect Doc for his decision, but own up to it.

the silence of the other hosts was hilarious when they went back to the studio and Bill stuck to his position. Jalen's look was like I am not going to get into this, I have to live in LA with Doc now.

I certainly hope it shortens his television career.

I like Simmons, he's done a great job poaching solid writers for Grantland and he's still capable of a great NBA column about once or twice a season, but I don't dig him on television.

Same.  He's very clever when he gets to think about and reword his ideas, but he's not very good at delivering them on the spot.  What you can tell are potentially witty ideas come out very awkardly.

Right. His "schtick" is Uber-Fan, and he got caught up in probably the worst moment any fan could ask for--having just learned that two of your favorite players traded in a trade you think is awful and then being called an idiot by the coach of your favorite team who just bailed to coach a contender.

I don't know if any one would've handled that particularly gracefully.

i liked simmons tonight.  he actually had opinions. most of these guys are robots that like everybody and never have a real criticism.   i watched the draft most of the night.  i haven't ever done that.

I love what Simmons did.

Love it, told exactly what needs to be told. He did quit on the team. It was on rebuilding stage and he wanted no part of it.

Don't get fired, Bill.

I was shocked by how entertaining Simmons was throughout the draft. I feel like he is figuring this out.

Even his response after Doc's clip was excellent.

I have long found Simmons' writing funny, but his analysis shallow. Tonight I gained new respect for him as he brought a lot of energy and relevant opinions to the broadcast.

I have

This my stance on BS as well.  He makes me laugh, and I find his writing genuine, and compared to other NBA talking heads he at least has his own opinions on the NBA matters.  But at the end of the day, His opinion doesn't hold much water with me.  This is the same guy that predicted the Heat would beat the Cs in the first round in 2010.

I like his broadcast persona too. I particularly like when he calls on the other broadcasters on their BS, and tries to get honest opinions out of them. Plus, he brought a lot of the fun to it rather than the blandness monotone analysis.

I love what Simmons did, he is one of us.

He's no different from us fans.
I bet any of us would've had the same reaction.

The only difference is, Bill can say it on a bigger scale.

Bonus awkward: a contender you are a prominent season ticket-holder of.

I liked Simmons' reactions generally.  From the shock of Bennett going #1 to the angry/mournful/constipated face he made when Broussard confirmed the trade, it at least seemed genuine, which is a lot better than the typical glossy sterile nonsense we usually get.

it's not awkward at all. What Bill Simmons said is the truth. You can argue or excuse it all you want but Rivers quit on the celts. He had a contract to go by with no conditions that the team will always remain great while he was coaching, and he quit on the contract.

Props to Bill Simmons. I don't always agree with him, but he's a true Celtics fan, he speaks his mind, and he's not afraid to be wrong. He made the draft watchable for the first time in forever.

Yeah, he was good on draft night. I wasn't a fan of his television thing during the regular season or the playoffs.
