Here is the real problem -- at least the way I see it. There really is no "Celtics Pride" anymore. There really is no loyalty anymore -- from either the players' or owners' side. Pro sports is nothing but another big business and that to me is why it sucks. As someone closing in on 60, I really do not enjoy having to go to my lineup card every year so I can figure out who is on my team. I am realistic and understand that things are never going to go back to the way they were, but I miss cheering for the same players year in and year out and watching them for their entire career. I know that this cannot happen anymore because it is a big business. So, Wyc and the other owners will take their big loss next year (because attendance will be woeful) and hope that Danny can draft right or package the picks and assets and again find lightning in a bottle the way he did with Ray and KG.

That said, I really have lost a lot of interest in all pro sports. I guess I am just a sentimental old fool, but pro sports interest me less and less every day.

The one thing I do not understand is how people seem to be able to come here and be thrilled and happy about what happened tonight and really show no sorrow at all for the fact that two of the best guys to ever play for this team will soon be gone. I guess I am just sentimental old fool.

couldn't have said it better...you either get this or you don't...if you don't get this...then...i truly feel sorry for you because it probably means you never truly knew and understood Celtic Pride...

Times change. In the Russell era, there wasn't a salary cap or even free agency.  Free agency started in the 70's, and a salary cap was instituted for the 84-85 season, after the Celtics had acquired their core in the 80's. The reality is that it just doesn't make sense anymore to keep older players around on huge contracts.  I didn't see Bird play; Pierce is the only Celtics great I've followed throughout his career. Believe me, I'm heartbroken to see him go.  But at the same time, if we nail a few of these extra draft picks we'll be in much better shape in a few years than  we would be if we let Pierce retire a Celtic.  To me, it's about the name on the front of the jersey, not the back.  Sorry if wanting what's best for the Celtics isn't true Celtic Pride.

you're right...times have changed...celtics pride was always different from the winning ways of the yankees or dodgers or cowboys or steelers or dolphins...it was just different...the Capt was the last great Celtic...that is...red was still around...celtic pride won't be the same...oh, it will be there...just not the same...there is a chink in the armor now...

he wants to be a lakers or heat fan...even he knows that this is a horrible trade...
That's on you.

no...that's on him...he knows more about Celtic Pride than most people on celtics blog...it's about loyalty and it's intrinsic...some people get that and some don't...

You can claim he wants to be a Lakers or Heat fan or that he knows about Celtic Pride, but not both. 9 is old enough to know better than to root for our rivals under any circumstances.

I think your son is sadly not too bright.

That's kinda out of line...

Hopefully dad could teach him some loyalty, though!

Anyone who wants to root for the Lakers or the Heat is probably not bright to begin with, so I'm just going with what the facts are telling me!

Whether it is a horrible trade or not, hard to say, given the three first rounders we will get. However, my 19-year-old son and this 57-year-old guy are completely heartbroken tonight. We had season tickets since he was 6 and we gave them up at the end of the season. He is heading off to college and I am heading to spending more time watching college sports and cheering for the Nets to win it all next year. Other than wondering how much Rondo is going to pout next year to try to get traded out of town, and maybe watching Sully get better, I am not sure how much I will want to watch this team next year. Hope the draft picks will work out, but thiso team next year will be unwatchable.
Going to turn 50 soon and don't have the best of health records so I can't help think, have a seen my last Celtic Championship? I also am just heartbroken with this Florida Marlins like fire sale for future picks that somewhere way down the line might finally own out as the next Celtic great that brings a championship.....maybe.

Regardless of your age, I certainly hope you haven't seen your last championship ... but I'm pretty sure you weren't gonna see one this next season even if Pierce and KG were kept.

Also, the Heat as our rivals?

I don't buy it. They just happen to be the best team in the league right now.

Our only real rivals are the Lakers.

The Heat have been our rivals the past few years, Lebron's Cavs were before that. These things come and go.

While that's certainly true, I just can't get as worked up about those teams.
