You'd have a "fun" team in the Celtics to watch our young players grow while they suck, and an "elite" team to watch in the Nets while they try to prevent the Heat threepeat.

Might be a League Pass year for me!

I just can't stomach cheering for humphries, Wallace, etc. like the picks....hate the players involved. They are fake celtics that don't deserve to wear the green

Wow, Celtics could potentially end up with 9 1st round picks over the next five years.

Those would play a huge part in a rebuild.

As currently structured this is a good trade for the Celtics. The sun is setting on the old guard, and we have to keep pushing toward the horizon. The sun will rise again...just in 2016.

I can take a few bruises. All of us can. Sit back and enjoy the rebuilding process. I'm excited, and KG and Pierce know we will never forget them. They are Celtics for life.
The trade depends on your view of the Celtics. Some people believe they C's can remain serious contenders other do not. Personally, I'm with Ainge. The C's need to rebuild and collect as many expiring contracts and draft picks to create movable assets and roster positions.

The C's need to go after their own, younger big 3 in the coming years. Miami has shown what's needed to win championships in the modern NBA.

We have no idea who stays and who goes. Nothing to worry about until the season starts.

To understand what is going on here, you have realize that this trade irrevocably puts the Celtics on the path of rebuilding after Ainge has been sending out mixed signals for a while.

This trade is really taking back a bunch of assets as the price of taking on the contract of Gerald Wallace.  Paul Pierce is really there to match salaries.  Terry is being sent over because Ainge can dump his salary in the trade.  KG is being added to the deal because he's not a good fit for a rebuilding team's roster, so might as well get something for him and give him respect by offering him a chance to control his destiny and waive his no-trade clause.

This is a potential one-year rental of both Pierce and Garnett.  They may be Hall of Famers, but that's still not worth more than a young player, a first pick, and expiring contracts.

So, Pierce and Garnett for two young assets each (four total), Humphries, and the first year of Wallace's contract.  Then Jason Terry for the second and third year of Wallace's contract and any other assets involved.  Getting some of those picks to be unprotected increases the value of what is involved.

It's a shame that the Nets have traded away every second-round pick through 2017, since it seems they undervalue picks.

I have a big problem with Celtics fans which I often find myself being a component of, being a Celtics fan myself. Any trade in which we don't 100% fleece the other team is a bad one, and one that would justify the firing of whichever executive is responsible. The fact of the matter is that as I see it, this deal is a very good one for both sides. Yes, we take back Gerald Wallace, but it is the only way we can match salaries in this proposed trade. Also, it's probably the only way you can convince the Nets to make the deal. We won't be good for at least two to three years at least, so it's not as if we're on the brink of contention but bogged down by a poisonous contract.

I see a lot of people challenging the point in swapping the expiring contract of Pierce for the expiring contract of Humphries. For one, Humphries' contract is slightly easier to trade at the deadline if we want to. Also, Humphries is worse than Pierce. If our only goal this season is to shed salary and collect assets, wouldn't we want a player that will accelerate our rebuilding process (as worse teams have a better chance at getting a lottery pick) rather than one that has us dwelling in the middle of the pack for a few more years?

As for Tornike Shengelia, a lot of Celts fans are overlooking this guy. It's very telling that a lot of Nets fans are hesitant in becoming what is basically a bona fide contender just to keep him. Great offensive game, remarkable motor, good size, 21 years old? Sign me up. We're lucky to be getting a prospect like this.

Another concern Cs fans have is that ATL could possibly swap picks with the Nets in 2014, which appears to be the first pick the Cs would get in this deal. How much damage could that really do? I can't see the Hawks having a better record than the Nets next year, and if by chance they do, it won't be so much better that this deal wouldn't be worth the trouble. If, as some people say, the picks in fact start in 2015 per league rules, I still hold my position despite the Hawks ability to swap picks in that draft as well. If the picks start in 2016 for the same reasons, we don't have to worry about the Hawks.

Finally, with the inclusion of Jason Terry now looking more and more likely, the Celtics shed the contracts of older, better players that would weigh down their cap space and hold the Celtics' rebuilding process hostage.

Overall, this deal is a good one and the calls for Danny to be fired because of this rumor are absurd. Rebuilding is a necessary process at this point, warts and all. Celtics fans must shake their aspirations to rob teams blind like the Lakers have done recently and for once rebuild like a normal NBA franchise.

You have a lot of people agreeing with you, but I do not.

Getting picks in the high 20's over the next 5 years, will be of little help IMO. Building through the draft is a good way to suck for 5-10 years. You get the best players you can and get more assets and trade them all for better players.

If you want to be the next Bobcats, this is the way. But I'd bet my own life my way would be quicker.

Could Pierce and KG retire after being traded? Make the Nets bad so that their 2014 pick is better? A final gift to the C's

:P

Who makes the team? Too many bodies as it is. Somebody is getting cut or dealt.

Might as well trade rondo. He will be mid 30s by the time Boston is good. He is t going to make a difference the next few years. Trade him for more picks

Woj:

Kevin Garnett "doesn't want to be pressured into a quick decision," source familiar with his thinking tells Y! Sports. Teams want if soon.

of course. The guy is only human, loves the city, good friends with guys on the team like Green, AB, Rondo and hates quitting/giving up.

OH GOD NO! ESPN says it's the deal is close.

Who are we taking back, more contracts? So much for rebuilding. I hope we can atleast get SnT for Blatche.

I don’t understand the obsession with Wallace’s contract. Someone explain to me how in the next 3 years, while we are playing younger players and developing, this deal will hurt us?

Really? You don't see it obviously. The contracts don't matter we will not be contending until 2017 at the earliest. Which I wouldn't be upset if it was 2020 we need to go full Bobcat blow up. Thats what the Celtics will need to do to win a title.
