IF scoring is what Shabazz does well then that is the reason he is being drafted.
He's not even that great of a scorer. His shooting splits are only average, not great. And he is completely deficient in ever other meaningful part of the game. Furthermore, we have no guarantee what scoring skill he does have will translate to the NBA against tougher, larger, more athletic, and more intelligent defenses. Especially considering he is undersized and not very athletic.
His scoring comes from all over the floor (not just in the paint) and unlike so many college kids he can shoot off the catch. He can transition, pick and pop, shoot the three, play back to the basket, and has a mid-range jumper. He does need to develop his handle but that is something that can come.
Where are you getting this information? According to the scouting reports I can find, the majority of his scoring comes from in the paint. And yes, he can hit the college 3-point shot; will he be able to take that step back in the NBA? Do we know if he has that kind of range? His mid-range jumper is average, nothing you want to put money on.
Literally every available piece of evidence I can find in any scouting report indicates to me that we should not take this player. I just don't see him ever becoming more than a Nick Young type player who comes off the bench and just jacks up shots. We don't need an inefficient volume shooter. We need someone who can actually score efficiently.
It isn't impossible for Muhammad to develop, obviously. None of us have any idea. I just don't see anything in his scouting report that stands out as being remotely interesting. You need a go-to skill in the NBA; he doesn't even have that. Slightly above average scorer who is significantly below average IN EVERY OTHER FACET OF THE GAME.
