The meeting with the press was telling. He thought he had sold Doc on going through the rebuild and he says maybe Doc sold him on believing that.

Quote
When we signed Doc to the highest-paid coaching contract in the NBA a couple years ago, we knew the ages of our players and we knew that we would be at a phase - maybe last year, maybe this year, maybe next year - that a time to rebuild would be in store. We talked about that. At that time before it hit him, he was all on board. I thought I did a very good sales job on Doc, at that time. Maybe he did a sales job on me (chuckle).

Water under the bridge but for all ya'll that thought Doc was trying to help the Celts you can go eat a sandwich now. Made no sense because it simply wasn't true.
Looks like (just my opinion) Danny was blindsided and he said he wanted 2 picks not 1 but took 1 for Doc

Quote
"I was asking for two picks for myself. They weren't going to do that, so we stuck with one for Doc (chuckle).
[/quote]

He's not looking like a guy who's sinister plan is right on schedule. That's just my opinion. Doc was wanting to keep his W/L on the up swing and not the down. That's understandable but he shoulda talked with Bostons media before L.A.'s  Say goodbye and then say hello.

Anyway...

Danny apparently was not "in" on any of this besides trying to get what he could from it which is his job.

And you believe this, why?

The fact that he made a point to mention they have not even spoken with any other coaching candidates is telling. A fan on the celticsblog forum even pointed out it was likely a negotiating tactic.

No disadvantages to this strategy, either - he knew they'd be hiring a shlub for the rebuilding process anyway.

He knew everything there was to know. I'd speculate he made the deal happen solely because Doc would've felt too badly about returning to Boston after the initial deal for 2 picks fell through.

Do you feel better now?

Maybe people were just trying to handle this situation in a classy way?

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

He didn't mean 2 picks for Doc, he was joking about how nobody's safe and can get moved that for himself it'd cost 2 picks. I took it like that at least. Lol

Well, do you?
Isn´t it obvious that nobody signs with a team he doesn´t want to sign with? Now put 2 and 2 together.

I was one of the Doc defenders but after hearing Danny (and not doc!?!), I gotta say, I was wrong.  Doc did quit on the celts and wanted out. Thats too bad.  Oh well, he helped us get 9 years and #17 so I will always be appreciative to him for that.

LOL?
You know what he meant? How do you get the nobody's safe outta that? I am more confused about what you said than you are about my words...I can guarantee that. I have NO idea how you extrapolated what you did...was their another press conference where he said nobody was safe for the price of 2 picks.

lol.....o.k. ???

Dude, I'm too old 30+ to get into a flame war or pretend who can read minds better. Doc wanted out, Danny wanted compensation. That 2+2 is 4 we can agree I think but how this began and who turned Boston into a City with one less attraction for free agents.....Danny said Doc wanted a fresh start, coaches are concerned with their stats just like players..I think it's a more difficult math problem than 2+2 but  that's just my opinion.

Please watch it before commenting. Lotta "he's" and no or few "we's"

I believe Danny when he says they Talked about chasing Red's record. Danny looks pretty [dang] tired and deflated and looks like he is putting his best face on but it's not hiding the ouch of a guy now gone he said was 90% sure was coming back just a week or 2 before this broke.

This is all just how I'm taking Danny's words...your mileage may vary. Enjoy

I had never seen Danny sound like that.  He looked like he had lost his best friend.  His razzing on the reporters in such an awkward, forced way seemed like an attempt at gallows humor.

That Doc expressed an interest in exploring his options as far back as May 8th--and Danny felt a need to send him a letter the next day--suggests that he's been dealing with this for a while.  Yet, he looked and sounded like he was in shock still about it.

I hope it doesn't lead to any bad decisions.  (Hint: a whopper of a contract for Josh Smith)

TP for you.

I'm just giving an opinion.

Danny's words and demeanor kinda blew me away. I thought he might try to fake the funk but he looked like he was not expecting to be talking to them (the media) about this (Doc leaving) right now (before Doc's contract finished)

I believe he believed they were gonna get through this and be some kinda batman and robin going down in Celtic lore for whatever it was Danny thinks/thought he could do to turn this around quick. Just my opinion that this really hit Danny personally. He's a human after all.

C'mon man
No need for that.
I'm a Celtics fan. I don't hate anybody I've never met.
I was just was noting Danny's demeanor and extensive use of "he" and not "we" which woulda been cover for Doc if he had implied this was a plan from Danny or they had hatched together...which some folks thought. I think Danny was and is not having a good week.

Please stay off the rage comments. Doesn't help anything.

Danny also said something along the lines of, Doc said if it wasn't a win, win, win for all parties that he would not have gone to the Clips he would still be our coach, this is why we have a pick.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Danny Ainge says the recent anti Rondo stuff from Chris Sheridan, that many in the Boston sports media ran with, is 2 year old news.
