Signing Smith would be an epically stupid move.

He's a bad offensive player. Bad jumper, bad 3 ptr, bad FT. Throw in the fact that he is also a volatile personality (dont we already have someone like that?) who is looking for a big contract (which he's not worth) and it spells trouble.  Just because he's Rondo's friend doesnt make it a good idea. I hope this doesnt happen.

Coming here he wouldn't have to be "the man" he was this year in ATL. Less hero ball increased shot %. Even though doc is gone, rondo can teach him something about his shot and definitely get him the shots he needs and can make not the ones he just feels like taking. Only thorn is that ft%, can't fix that  ::)
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

That FT% issue is actually quite important. Putting all of Smith's other flaws aside, we have to keep in mind that if we do bring in Smith with Rondo, that gives us two key players who also happen to be free throw liabilities in late game situations.

he might not be "the man" but he'll have to be counted upon to score. The C's had big time offensive problems last year, both with Rondo and without. Relying on Rondo/Green/Smith as the go to scorers means is team might have a very tough time scoring. They won't be able to space the floor properly and teams will just dare them to shoot.

I'm on the fence about Josh Smith, I'm just very wary of what we give to get him.

This would be my deal:

Brandon Bass + Jason Terry = 15.1 million offer, that's very close to the max contract he wants, if needed we can add some of those non-guaranteed contracts we have at hand so that Atlanta can just drop them after the trade, or Fab Melo if they so desire.

We also got a future 1st round pick from the Clippers, so we got some picks if we have to sweeten the deal somehow.

But this is the crux, I'm only interested in Josh Smith if we stick with KG, and to a lesser extent Pierce going forward. Else, I have no interest in paying Josh Smith anything close to a max contract, but if we keep our talent players, adding Smith to it would be well worth the contract and the pain to come after all is said and done.

Not only is Smith a better player, but you mentioned efficiency, yet Batum only shot 42% from the field last year.

First of all, Smith is much bigger and should be able to get a lot of higher percentage shots. Second, Batum was dealing with a variety of injuries last year thanks to the fact that the Blazers have no bench whatsoever, and also the fact that Batum is charged with a Lebron-like role on the Blazers. He literally does EVERYTHING for them. If you take away last season's campaign, and he's shooting upwards of 46% for his career. Additionally, his 3P% and FT% is heads and shoulders above Smith's, and he turns the ball over less than Smith despite averaging more assists. Honestly, I could continue and argue that Batum IS the better player.

For now though, I'll leave it at that. I'll give you a pass since Batum is underrated and plays on the other side of the country for a small market.

EDIT: The poster above also makes great points why Smith is NOT more efficient than Batum.

I'm not sure what you're talking about there since offensively he' mostly relegated to spotting up and is the 3rd best player on the Blazers. Smith had a much greater responsibility offensively than Batum did for their team. Not even close really.

Rondo was among the league leaders in fg% on 16-23 foot jumpers and Jeff Green was one of the best spot up shooters in the league last year.

I think you can work with a Rondo/Green/Smith trio if you have good shooters at the 2 and 5.  Lee fits that description at the 2.  Solid two-way player.  He'll do for now.

At the C, draft Dieng (if we keep our pick).  He's another two-way player who will protect the rim, rebound, and hit a midrange jumpshot.  I don't understand why this guy is so far down most draft boards.  He's not a star, but at the #16 we shouldn't be expecting that of him.  I think he IS a backup center at the very worst, with a decent chance of being a serviceable starter.

It depends on sending PP to Cle for that TE and picks 31,33.

If we do the brooklyn deal , I would think we are just going to tank , because Atlanta doesn't want to take back any salary.

So what ever happened to this?

Ainge probably floated Nets megadeal to gain more leverage with Hawks.

Kg deal with Nets can still go down for Humphries, Brooks picks and PP can be part of the Hawks thing TPE via Cavs.

I agree , if we could do those deals , I like it a lot better than Nets mega deal

So I guess this is officially dead. Can't see Smith wanting to come to a complete rebuilt, blown out team.

Probably, but then again if Rondo is there I still think he has some interest.

The one thing that is worse than the Brooklyn trade was potentially getting Josh Smith. I'm glad this is not an option anymore.
