I don't understand the fascination with Josh Smith.

DeAndre Jordan
Josh Smith
Jeff Green
Avery Bradley
Rajon Rondo

That team's spacing and FT% makes me cringe.

Defense could be good though.  And they would put Butts in the seats.  (though Wyc said he would accept a full tear down so I don't think thats an issue)

Still only 27.  Averaged 18/8/4 in the final year of his Atlanta contract.  Shot selection would improve playing with a guy like Rondo.

cool, I just almost posted this in the proper forum, but I guess I'll talk about it here too

my question is who are we signing and trading?
can getting Josh Smith keep KG semi happy? Because that's not really 'tanking'...it's going young.

I'm saddened by the idea that we'll probably have to trade JG. Which I think is a solid mistake.

Atlanta wouldn't want Bass/Lee/etc would they? Of course, unless DA put that unprotected pick on them.

Meh, I am not really a Jeff Green fan. I think he's a good player but if we could deal him for Smith, I would do it in a heartbeat.

If I had to choose between letting Pierce retire as a Celtic or dealing Jeff Green, I pick the latter.

Also, I would consider dealing KG, Bradley and Crawford for Gasol and Steve Blake and land either Korver or Redick with the MLE.

I think this lineup would be nasty

PG-Rondo/Blake
SG-Lee/Terry/Redick (maybe)
SF-Pierce/Korver (maybe)
PF-Smith
C-Gasol

I think you're stuck in the past
That lineup sounds fair to me.

I think Jeff Green is a versatile wing who can hit the long shot and drive...that's why I think we need him. He also scored the most in the playoffs, even with a 9pt game or so...his avgs (minus assists and rebounds) were better than pps. so his scoring avgs, i guess.

Jeff Green is a great individual defender. So that, too. I just think, again, that DA is going young and to give up a stud like JG is not in his playbook.

can someone explain how you trade a trade expception?

No disrespect Roy, I don't know what you're talking about...

Josh Smith will space that floor all the time with his long two's. ;D

who said anything about DAJ?
What if getting Smith get's KG to stay?

KG and JG have find FT% shooting. I recall Rondo's being in the 70s last year? And is AB's bad?

I think we still look for another SG, though.

How do you feel about this? I think if we can essentially get Josh Smith and a first (or two seconds) for Pierce it is a steal. I also think Smith fits the style we want to play with Rondo and could learn a lot from a half season of KG while the C's attempt to get value for him.

My only hesitation would be replacing Pierce with Smith then becoming a mid seeded team that is stuck at the five seed for a bunch of years in a row without hope of moving up.

What else would Atlanta want for Josh Smith besides the TPE? Would we give them the rights to one of the picks we got from Pierce?

If we did this move would we move Bass, Terry and Lee in order to get under the luxury tax. Would the owners pay the tax for a Rondo, Bradley, Green, Smith, Sully core? If the C's are willing to spend and have high hopes why does every report indicate they want to go cheap with their next coach?

Far and away my biggest concern with adding Smith.

I like him and his skill set but we would need a center who can space the floor a little bit. (would love if Garnett could be talked into staying but i think that's doubtful.)

Danny is rebuilding.  I'm pretty skeptical that he dumps Doc and Pierce only to keep KG.

As for FTs, Rondo shot 64%.

Yeah, I kinda doubt Smith's awful shot selection really has much to do with who he's playing with.  Rondo would get him some good looks, but Smith is still going to rear back and fire up that 18 ft jumper whenever he feels like it.

If the Celtics want to rebuild, do not be scared of being bad.  Do not overpay for fringe all-stars.

Stern already said a KG for Jordan trade is not happening....

I agree.  I think JG was one of our better 3 point shooters.  I don't want to give that up for Smith.  But together I think I can deal with the combination.  Green a better shooter, Smith a better rebounder and defender.

Some of you have posted that it would take the trade exception and avery bradley?  Not sure I want to give up AB, but I do that before JG.

I'm skeptical, too BUT perhaps you talk him into it, especially if it's a plan B or C. I'd like to know what other Cs we're looking into. We just can't get DAJ because of what the league said, right?

Or are you of the bunch who think we'll trade for him midseason (read: after Stern leaves)?

I would really enjoy watching that team next season.

Of course, this team has no chance of ever existing.  There is no way that Atlanta takes back salary for Smith, especially for Jeff Green.  Trading Pierce for a TPE is a prerequisite for the Smith trade.

Doubt this happens though.

Like others have said, all signs point to a rebuild. This is exactly the kind of move you don't make in a rebuild.
