KG/Sully/Green/Pierce/Rondo is not going to seriously threaten the Heat but I don't know, that lineup still looks pretty good to me (assuming Rondo and Sully are good come playoff time). Slow, yes...but this would be a very high IQ team. Either KG, Pierce, Rondo, or Green will be our 4th best player. Think about that for a second. Problem is we don't have a MVP top 5 type player but lets face it, LeBron James isn't walking through that door, Kevin Durant ain't walking through that door, and Kobe Bryant ain't walking through that door.

Unless Danny can somehow parlay his remaining assets into a top 5 pick in the 2014 draft, I can think of worse fates then watching this team compete and attempt to prove everyone wrong. Run it back and if we stink, we'll have a lottery pick in a loaded draft, maybe even a top 5 pick (Jabari Parker, Marcus Smart, or Julius Randle). If not we'll have one last playoff run with two of the most beloved Celts in recent memory in KG and Pierce.

The problem is we won't stink with that line up. We won't stink but we won't be serious contenders. And even if we do start off the year strong, once the playoffs roll around, KG and Pierce would be low on gas from having to do most of the carrying during the season. The farthest that team might go is a 2nd round exit. Then come the year after that, well be pretty much forced to blow it up/rebuild only this time, without a strong 2014 draft to look forward to.

I'm a huge KG and Pierce fan and I'd love to see them retire in green but unless we can reload this offseason to be serious contenders, we're better off blowing it up and gathering good assets while we still can.

wouldn't mind seeing it one more year,  but I don't expect it to happen ,  look for Danny to start over given he has to have a new coach anyways .

So you want to keep the same team? Why?

I'm sorry I do not want to watch them walk the ball up the court anymore, than hold the ball to 4 seconds left on the shot clock, take a bad jump shot, and run back to defend. I'm all good with that, seen enough of that in my life.

Put me in the "Run it Back" camp.  If this year's draft is supposed to be weak (an I am not a college fan), there is little help from impact players there.

Our best player was injured last year and our best rebounder was injured.  Before we had Sully, we were within 1 game of the NBA finals.

There are 2 problems with running it back - egos and who will coach the veterans?  I think if we can get a starting center (Gortat, Dalembert, Okafor, etc.) , we should put Pierce and KG on the bench together and let them lead the second unit.  Start:

Rondo
Bradley
Center
Green
Sully

Have Pierce and KG on the bench with either Lee or Terry and fill in the rest.

Try to compete until Pierce and KG are off the books.  Play .500 ball during the season and make a late push by slowly increasing Pierce and KG's minutes at the end of the year.  If we play better than .500, that's great.  If we play worse, we put ourselves in better draft position.

The good thing is that didn't happen very often. And you'd also have to consider whether a new coach would change that.

So, you'd rather be really bad, than be decent?

I don't think I can bear another year of  slogging through the regular season while trying to conserve the legs of your two best players, an endeavor doomed to fail before it started.

Let's go at it again, particularly with a new coach... Doc was terrible last year, huge problem for our underwhelming performance, aside from the injuries.

Breaking this team up at this point is purely an unnecessary panic move.

Good solution to a skimpy squad. Doc Hannibal destroyed out starters.

Certainly destroyed them. Pierce averaged career-low minutes per game, and Garnett averaged the lowest mpg since his rookie year. Bad Doc, bad Doc.

I think a coach with a really different offensive system would do wonders for this team. As long as KG is around, our defense will be up, but our offense needs a huge shot in the arm. We can cite us being a .500 team all we want, but there is no way that team was actually .500 talent wise. Look at the Spurs a few years ago. They were the 8th seed because Pop didn't make the right adjustments, and their offense struggled big time. The Spurs have been on the way up since refocusing their offense and gearing it towards their younger players. Their defense came back this year too (unlike last season), and it's one of the main reasons they made a great Finals run.
