For the past several weeks, I have been all about researching big guys, and for where we are drafting, I think Dieng is Option 1 and Plumlee is Option 2.  Not really off the charts type guys.  Now that we are in rebuild mode, perhaps we are better off just giving Melo some run (assuming we don't get Big Al :)

With Rondo coming off an injury and his contract coming up in a couple of years, perhaps we should start grooming a PG.  Also, I think there is enough smoke now to admit that perhaps Rondo is just not that easy to get along with and may not change. Moving him for pieces now or within the next two years may be the move to make.

I am starting to convince myself on Larkin.  I like everything this guys does except that he is a little shy of 6 feet in height.  Good pick and roll guy, great kid, nice shot, and great handle.  Anybody have any thoughts on Larkin or any of the other PGs where we are picking?

He reminds me of AI/Nate with more of a get the teammates involved mentality.

Draft express has us picking Larkin.

CNNsi had this review on him, which was a summary from 5 GM's.

"Shane Larkin, 6-foot point guard, Miami: "Stud athlete, stud kid. His size is never going to change, so the question is whether your coach can live with that. He had a 44-inch vertical at the combine. He's gonna be pretty [dang] good, man. If you have talented pieces around him, he's going to be really good because he likes to get others involved. He's an off-the-charts kid. He is truly about the team."

I like Larkin, I think he is going to be a JJ Barea type pro. Not big enough to be a starting PG but skilled enough to come off the bench and be a spark. Great athlete and good shooter his down fall will be on defense.

Draft Larkin, Play him at the first half or so of the year. Evaluate Larkin and his potential, Rondo will be hungry to reclaim his job. Let Rondo pump up his own trade value again. And at some point decide who your guy is and who your trading.

If trading Rondo was to be part of the rebuild, I'd also be very happy to draft Larkin.

Is he like JJ Barea?

That is the image I have of him after seeing some of the highlights, stats and descriptions of him. Similar type of player, more athleticism. Strong backup PG prospect.

Larkin is a better defender, quicker, better shooter. But Barea has elite strength/craftiness at the pg position that allows him to score over bigger players. Larkin is going to struggle to finish at the basket, but everything else in his game should be fine.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I have no problem drafting a PG as long as he is the best player available. I prefer size but BPA is the way to go and we need a back up PG anyway. Getting a PG that gets to learn from Rondo will be great.

How about Aaron Brooks as a comparison for Shane Larkin?

Agree with the OP. Convincing myself that Larkin is now the way to go. Great pedigree obviously being Barry Larkin's son. And Barry was the consummate professional and leader in the lockerroom. This has had a front row seat all his life to watching "how it's done at a professional level". In a number of different ways Larkin is the "anti-Rondo".
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

With the way A Brooks ended up, and seeing JJ Barrera play I'd say Larkin will be better than both.

If Danny does go with a PG in the first round, I'm hoping it's Schroeder.

Drafting a PG = giving yourself a stop-gap solution until Rondo is back, and making it possible to trade Rondo, if you struck gold with said stop-gap solution.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

To me his ceiling is Ty Lawson.  Super quick, good decision-maker, great shooter.  I like Larkin a lot.  One of my top picks for guys who might be available to us.  And I think he makes sense with or without Rondo in the long-term plans.

That Larkin kid is pretty good.  I think he has chance to be the next Tyson Wheeler.
