doc rivers said that he was a Celtic. BUT -

He had a huge contract for 3 years more to coach the Celtics (his team), the team that he supposedly loved, the team which KG says that he bleeds green for, but yet HE CHOSE TO LEAVE!?

This means to me that doc is not a Celtic. Who of us true fans would leave under those circumstances?

WE ARE Celtics. He is not.

He went to greener pastures (pun intended) to protect HIS legacy and to turn his back on Ubuntu.

If he was truthful that "he was a Celtic" then he stays just like Paul and KG and most of the great Celtics did or wanted to do.

Paul and KG didn't get that choice.

doc did and he bailed. That's not being a Celtic.

So Doc and Danny had an understanding according to the Herald that he probably wouldn't stick around for a rebuild, was by all accounts a mutual decision but yet Doc is a liar? You guys got what you wanted...he's gone. Let it go

So both Doc and Danny are liars. Shocked. Why sign a long-term contract when each side knows that the guy inking the deal isn't going to stay around? One more reason why I have started to hate professional sports.

Yep. I remember the days where a lot of posters him wanted him fired. And soon enough, he's out.

It was more the Doc was really laying it on thick with the lies.

Talking abiut loyalty to a team and how coaches always talk about loyalty and that Doc signed long term to SHOW loyalty and not just talk about it.

That's about as hypocritical as you can get. Just reading his interviews after he signed his contract extension to these past few weeks is pretty entertaining.

Source tells SportsCity Doc will run #Clipper organization w/o title, as Pop runs #Spurs…. Teams say KG deal dead--but Pierce may not be.

Alternatively, Doc took one for the team by signing that contract with the understanding that it turned him into an asset.

We just traded a coach for a first round pick. That's highway robbery, especially if you're prone to the low estimation of Doc's coaching skills (as many CelticsBlog posters are).

Either he sucks and we fleeced LAC, or he doesn't suck and you're mad that he got traded.

It does not take a rocket scientist to put this all together with out bashing people.

Doc told Danny 3 years ago he does not want part of rebuild.  They agreed to part ways if that came about.  the 3 year plan went to 6.  Doc would have stuck around if Danny, Paul and KG could honestly say they are contenders. Owners do not want to pay a coach 7 million to rebuild.  Boston saved lots of money and received a first for Doc.  I see this as a win win.

If the owner and Boss come to me and ask me if they can shop me to another team, because we think its good for you and the company you do it. Simple as that.   Don't be so dramatic.

It wasn't guaranteed that Doc would leave.  It wasn't (and still isn't) guaranteed that the Celtics would have to go through a rebuilding phase of missing the playoffs for a few years.

For Danny, it was a chance to set up a contingency for the future that Doc could become a trade asset.  For Doc, it was a chance to feel secure and make sure that his voice about personnel decisions would be heard.  Doc wanted to avoid being in the position that George Karl ended up in when he was fired because the Nuggets didn't want to pick up the three-year extension option or even negotiate changes to the option.

After seeing the train wrecks Rivers put forth on the court pre-Thibs/Garnett/Allen..Embarassing defensively...Before tanking ensued.........

If Danny wants to rebuild....Both Danny and Rivers did us a collossal favor here.  Danny by getting compensation and Rivers by leaving.

Who says Doc was not eased out by Danny. It was mutual in my view. Same with KG. He is not going unless it benefits the Celtics and the legacy he fought to be a part of. To me Pierce is the toughest one. He earned the right to retire a Celtic if anyone has. Danny needs to do right by Paul. Should be an interesting week; but I don't think Paul is shown the door unless be can go somewhere he wants to be (like LA). Think KG is fine waiting a year and working with Rondo, Sully and Jeff.

Yeah sure, any anonymous fan can claim to be "more of a Celtic" than the guy who coached us to our first championship in 20 years and is currently 2nd all time in regular season and playoff victories among Celtics coaches, second only to Red Auerbach.

Makes total sense.
