I don't think Dallas is going to give up resources and cap space to put KG next to Dirk for one season -- two at most.  Not unless they strike out on all their other plans.

I imagine the Mavs would really like to build a group around Dirk that can keep the Mavs competitive through Dirk's retirement (i.e. for the next 3-4 years).

That means targeting guys like Josh Smith and Iguodala over guys like Pierce and KG, even though the latter two are arguably more valuable players right now than the former two.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Oh, forgot to add a few things. I'm aware the cavs don't have unlimited cap space. But i was looking over at fear the sword and they think it MIGHT be possible to add the contracts of both Pierce and Marion. If it doesn't quite work how I wrote it up, I am confident the celtics could absorb the contract of either Alonzo Gee (3.5) or CJ Miles (2.5 million) to make the deal work.

For what its worth, this trade would actually clear up a couple million in cap space for the mavericks. The cavs are the ones losing cap space.

KG has a no trade and would invoke it...

The was before David Stern decided KG could go to the clippers. I think that this is where a trade like this would start off at for negotiations and then the teams would have to find a middle ground.

But I think Dirk+Mayo+30 million in cap space is something KG could potentially warm up to.

I'd rather have the pick and the trade exemption without Vince.  I just puked in my mouth thinking of him in green.

If you don't like it, that's fine. But it's not a bad deal
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

That would be a good trade for both sides, if Celtics can't find a team willing to give up a 1st rounder for Pierce (e.g. Dallas).  Only thing is Pierce would need to be willing to play in Cleveland.

second round picks seems to be pretty useless in a rebuild like this...but it is obvious boston doesn't want a player for him...wanted a 1st round pick

ccording to Fox Sports anchor John Telich:
Hearing Bucks, TWovles and Cavs have offered deals to Boston for Paul Pierce. #nba Cavs off 2 second rd picks.
Before you scream, “But Paul Pierce is worth way more than 2nd round picks!” know that any such deal that doesn’t include additional players would have to involve a trade exception equal to Pierce’s contract.
The Celtics could then use that exception in a deal with another team.
But…
According to Hoopsworld – my go-to website for player salaries – neither the Cavs nor the Wolves have trade exceptions. The Bucks have about $3 million in TPE.
So there has to be more to the alleged rumors.
Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio has more info on Cleveland’s alleged interest:
As for the rumors involving the Cavs, the Boston Celtics and forward Paul Pierce, sources confirmed the Cavs have indeed expressed an interest — but the talks have yet to reach the level of seriousness conveyed by some reports.
Following the departure of coach Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Celtics are looking to gut the roster and shed salary, making Pierce and forward Kevin Garnett (and possibly even point guard Rajon Rondo) available. Word is, however, that Pierce wants to play for a contender, making the Cavs hesitant to be overly aggressive in his pursuit.
Still, some sources indicated the Celtics have until the 13th pick to decide whether to accept the Cavs’ offer for Pierce. If not, those sources said, the Cavs will pull the trigger on the potential deal with the Mavericks.
Another source added the Cavs’ reported offer of both second-rounders for Pierce “isn’t the entire truth.”
Amico adds that one team has inquired about Anderson Varejao but the Cavs have not been too receptive.
Could the Celtics be that team?

Lets make a deal!

Celtics Send: Garnett and Pierce
Celtics Get: #31, #33, Anderson Varejao and a trade exception

hehehe, wishful thinking.
