Are the Lakers our best option?

I think the Lakers are being overlooked as a good option for us to trade with.  Kobe wants to stick around 2 more years and I truly believe the only reason he is sticking around is to win again.  He struggled with Howard last year.  I don't believe Kobe wants to waste anymore time trying to make it work rather than just going with a team that can win now.

That being said, combined with KG's willingness to play in LA, is it possible to trade Pierce and KG to LA for Howard and pieces (in a sign and trade)?  How would the money work?  If we can grab Howard, it would complete our starting five and we would have a good foundation to move forward with:

Rondo
Bradley
Howard
Sullinger
Green

If that happens, is there anything left to trade for J-Smoove?

I would love to hear some thoughts from the members who know the cap situation and how this can work.

Unless we could acquire a Josh Smith for a package of the likes of Bass, Lee, Terry etc I don't see Howard wanting to come here, and he wanting to leave the Lakers and come here is maybe the only way we could get LA to do a sign and trade deal for Pierce and KG for Howard.

For the sake of argument lets just say the following things happen:

1. Dwight tells the Lakers he is leaving
2. Dwight gives the Lakers a list of teams he would go to
3. Boston is on that list of teams

The question then becomes, can Boston put together a package that would entice the Lakers more than say Houston, Brooklyn, etc.?  That I just don't know as Houston has some pretty solid young guys and could absorb most of Dwight's contract so that gives immediate relief to LA.  Brooklyn could give them something centered on Brook Lopez who would be a pretty solid return.  Is the following (or something like it) a better option: KG, PP, Sullinger, 1st for Dwight and Metta?  I just can't see that as being a better option for L.A. than other trades that could be out there.

I seriously hope there is no deal to be had between these two teams.  I have no appetite for possibly helping LA tie us in titles.

Fortunately, I don't think he wants to come here nor do I think we could ever offer the best deal to the Lakers in the unlikely event that the sign and trade him.

I have a feeling that the Clips will offer Griffin in a Sign and Trade.  How could the Celtics top that?

I believe that there is absolutely ZERO chance KG would even dream of waving his no trade clause to go to the Lakers.

This is arguably the greatest rivalry in the history of sports. Boston would have two, maybe three titles by now if not for the Lakers.

I wouldn't send KG there, but I think a PP for Gasol trade makes a lot of sense.  We need another big and bringing in a big of Gasol's quality could be enough to convince KG to stay.  Lakers don't really want him there anyway, and Paul Pierce is a MASSIVE upgrade over MWP (who the Lakers could and hapilly would Amnesty). 

The best part is that Pierce's contract isn't even much (if any) bigger than that of MWP, but is significantly smaller than Gasol's.  They would be getting a huge upgrade at SF while saving a ton of cap space.
