The Boston Celtics almost certainly won't buy out Paul Pierce for the 13-14 season, according to sources.

The Celtics could buy out Pierce's $15 million salary for $5 million.

The Celtics have received enough interest from contending teams interested in Pierce where he is viewed as an asset.

Thank god. I'm so tired of hearing this nonsense that Danny will buy Pierce out. You don't just let an asset walk away for nothing.

Danny is not the type of GM who will throw 5m to save 10m. But I'm sure Sterling will do such move (mister cheapo).
Even a 2nd round pick and a TE is much better.

I don't now what to believe anymore David Aldridge says were likely to buy him out:

Paul Pierce is likely to be bought out by next Sunday's deadline for $5 million, making him a free agent

I tend to believe Woj because it seems like he has actual sources within the Celtics organization.

Of course, this may be a smokescreen Ainge is using the media to put up so that he can discourage teams who are interested in Pierce from waiting to see if he is waived.

Buying Pierce out makes little to no sense. You will find a trade partner for him willing to give up something of value. I'd believe Woj on this one more than Aldridge.

Aldridge assumed based on clippers deal. But apparently Pierce was never a part of the clippers deal. That would have been chocking to me that Danny would do such a favor to the clippers.

Including Pierce wouldn't have been doing any favors for the Clips, since they'd then have to pay him $15M to play for them.  Trading him to someone who would buy him out for $5M would be a bigger help to the Clips.

Exactly.  Either keep him or trade him. Makes no sense to let him walk.
Celtics fan for life.

It makes some sense if it helps the Celtics lower their payroll enough to:
A) Use the full MLE on a player
B) Do a sign-and-trade (which you can't do if it will put you over the apron)
C) Avoid playing the repeater luxury tax, so that ownership is more willing to spend more money in 2014-2015 if next season can be a bridge year between windows

One of the Cleveland bloggers was talking on twitter about how much Celtics fans would hate if Pierce went to the cavs.  I told him I really wouldnt care and I think he doesnt really have a guage on wear celtics fans stand right now.  Would you guys be mad?

Agreed totally, I just do not know where people get this idea that Boston would let a player of Pierce's ability and productiveness leave for nothing, there absolutely will be a deal there I believe to acquire a quality free agent in a sign and trade scenario for Pierce.

No I wouldn't.

Send him to a team with a budding superstar PG and a host of talented young players. It's not like sending him to Charlotte.

I wouldn't be thrilled.  I don't want to see Pierce traded, but if he is, I'd like to see it to a contender.

What was his rationale?  Certainly no C's fans see the Cavs as rivals, the only such complaints I've heard about a possible deal with Cleveland is that it would be unfair to stick Pierce in Cleveland.

(The NBA is a business and IMO for $15M Pierce can put up with a few weeks in any American city.)

I think Cleveland fans still think its a rivalry?
