What about KG and Pierce to Minnesota for:

Pekovic, Derrick Williams, a 2013 1st, and a 2014 2nd round pick?

Keeps them together, and puts them with Love and Rubio. Minnesota makes a run at Monte Ellis, and they'd immediately be a top 5 team. Minnesota has very little on the books (Love at $13M) with I think a $35M total payroll so with KG's 11, and Pierce's $15, (and Minus $9.5 in outbound salary) they'd have enough to offer Ellis $10M/per, and could pick up Pietrus/Pryzbilla back up types very cheap.

KG gets to win a championship with Minnesota, Love is happy enough to stick around, and a former DPOY is there to cover for Rubio's defensive ineptitude.

Meanwhile, we get two good young players to either put on the roster, or with whom to rebuild; a shot at Steven Adams in 2013, and the ability to draft a back up PG with our pick.

Bumping this thread in light of this story (Minnesota is under the cap, so it works, IIRC).

I would definitely file KG to Wolves under "Could Happen".  If there was a way to get Pierce there too, why not?  Not sure about the above deal though...

If Pierce were released would he follow Kevin to MInny or Doc to Clippers?  I'm guessing Kevin to Minny despite L.A. hometown draw....

I think if it were to happen, it would need to be a trade, and we would need to do it soon.

Only problem here is Pekovic is a restricted free agent, isn't he?

If so, then wouldn't that complicate this?

KG and the 16th pick

for

Derrick Williams, the 9th pick, Luke Ridnour, Steemer.

At this point, taking a flyer on Williams and moving up 7 spots in the draft seems fair to me.   Steemer/Ridnour dont have much left on their deals and would provide solid bench help for a year or two.

Why does KG waive his no trade clause to go back to the frozen tundra of Minnesota? Don't see that happening.

For the same reason he never wanted to leave in the first place :P

I think the line of thinking is that KG has been rumored to be interested in playing another season and then taking on a front office position in the T-Wolves organization, so it'd be sort of a homecoming/transition back into the organization.

I don't see why he would want to play another season for a team that isn't a true contender though, since he will always be welcomed back to Minnesota with open arms whenever he does decide to hang it up. Plus I think it'd most likely be a ceremonial position rather than an actual FO position.

Who knows though, maybe if there aren't any true contenders that come calling KG would rather play for Minnesota, get paid and go back "home" than retiring a year before he is ready.

Pekovic and Derrick Williams would be a great start to the rebuild in my mind.  Gives us a solid line-up of Forwards/Centers with Green, Williams, Sully, Bass and Pekovic.  Also would get another young asset this year in the draft and another 2nd rounder in a stacked draft.  Hate to see them 2 leave but this is a deal I'd take.......but I really don't see Minnesota giving up that much.  Especially Pekovic who really looked solid last year.

That's not an awful trade. Don't like the prospective logjam of Green and Williams at the 3/4, but I haven't seen Williams play enough to really comment on it.

I could see this happening if only because the Timberwolves are desperate to make a playoff run to appease Kevin Love and KG would be a perfect compliment to Love.

From KG's perspective, playing a low-pressure role with the Timberwolves could be an appealing alternative to retiring early because his favorite coach and teammate are both leaving town at the same time.

Maybe KG would prefer to wait until next year to join the T-Wolves in only a "ceremonial" role, but if it's that, retire, or stick around with a Celtics team that has already effectively moved on from him and his compatriots, I wouldn't be surprised if he were open to going to Minnesota.

I don't think Minnesota would be willing to give up that much for him, though.

I think Derrick Williams and Green could work together.

In my opinion, Williams makes much more sense at the 4, while Green should really only play at the 3 unless we're facing a small-ball opponent.

I was thinking about this topic last night. I think there's something to it, though I don't know what the C's would want back in return.

Williams seems like the odd man out, so that's the likely piece the C's would go after.

Then, KG might approve it bc it's his old franchise, and they have a big dog to back him up Pekovic, a franchise caliber guy in Love, a super PG in Rubio and another solid vet in AK47. That would be a playoff caliber team next season.

depends on the trade.  If it is the one Jay proposed (which is far more likely) then Minnesota still has Pekovic, Love, Rubio, and AK 47.  Add KG to the mix and if they can get a respectable SG and that team could be incredibly scary if they could stay healthy (which is the real issue and problem in Minnesota).
