Here's how I see this playing out.

You get the Doc thing squared away.  Doc to the Clippers for the 2015 1st.  Fine.

There's some concern that submitting KG for DeAndre right away might rustle some jimmies with the league office.  Honestly, does it matter if we try to do that right away?

The next step should be dumping Pierce.  Preferably to a team like Cleveland who can absorb his salary.  Try to get that done by draft night.

Shoot... you could even pursue trading Rondo on draft night if you can land a top pick like Nerlens Noel (very unlikely... Rondo doesn't have that much value at this piont, I don't think)

But at this point... Doc's gone... Pierce is gone.  Then you approach KG and see what his mental state is like.

#1 Does he want to return and be a mentor to the youths with a new coach on a lotto team?  Great.  I'm all for it!  ...

#2 - Does he want to leave for a contender?  Ok.  Give us a list of teams you are comfortable with playing for KG.  Is it ONLY the Clippers?  Would you be interested in joining the team we send Pierce to?  Any interest in joining a team like the Spurs?  What's our options? ...  See... I have to imagine that the Clippers can't be the only possible destination at that point.  If he wants to play and play for a contender, there must be a couple teams that intrigue him.  If it's just the Clippers... fine... do the Deandre deal.

#3 - Does he want to just retire?  Great.  Money off the books.  I'm not all that desperate to pay Deandre 10 mil a year for 2 years anyways.

There's no rush to trade KG.  We could drag this out to the deadline if we want.  There's no "buyout" deadline at the end of the month or anything.  We could wait several weeks and try to squeeze more out of the Clippers or get a better package from another team KG desires to play for.

I think both KG and Pierce are gone. No point in keeping them on the team for a rebuild.

Pierce could be gone by Thursday's draft. The rumor with Cleveland sounded very appealing. 2 picks and a trade exception is a good start to stockpile some assets. Also, a deal with Dallas for an expiring deal and the 13th pick this year would be nice too. Dallas can then buyout Pierce and he can go to the Clippers.

KG I'm not so sure. Obviously, the trade to the Clips would make sense for him but I'm really not that high on Deandre Jordan though. I wonder if KG would acceot a deal to a team like Chicago. Maybe the C's could take on a big contract for them (maybe Boozer) and get the Charlotte pick the Bulls possess? Worst case KG just retires but it would be nice to get something for him.

So now with word that the NBA will refuse to accept a KG to Clippers deal, I stand by this even more.  Dump Pierce for whatever... ask KG if he wants to stay, retire... or give us a list of teams he'll accept a trade to.

You don't "dump" Pierce for whatever. If choosing between "dumping him wherever," and letting him ride it out here so he can retire a Celtic (yes, for 15 mil), then you let him stay. You sound like a Heat fan or something. Have some respect.

Word on the street was we were going to buy him out for zip and still pay 5 mil of his contract.

So yeah... dump him for "whatever".  "Whatever" meaning dump him to a team like the Cavs for a trade exception... if you get a 2nd rounder out of it, it's a bonus.  Or maybe the Dallas pipe dream where we get expiring contracts and a 1st.

We're done trying to win games.  Riding it out with Pierce is counterproductive.  We gotta get real bad real quick.

I don't think there's any evidence that we're tanking yet. It might happen, but it's not a given based on what's been happening.

Give it a week.  It's happening.  Pierce and KG are gone.  Rondo as well if we luck into suckering some team into trading a top pick for him.

We're starting over from scratch.

I'll be shocked if we trade rondo. Don't see it happening. I wonder if KG would consider going to OKC. He could re-up with Perk. Maybe they take Terry too. A sign and trade for Kevin Martin and a future pick or something.

The Celtics are really going to be putting KG in an uncomfortable position, to make a hard decision, if they move Pierce after Doc is gone.

That's the business he is in though. Really doesn't seem like he wants to retire.

KG: "Dude.... What is up with yo shorts?!"

Should be a very exciting draft.  Everyone on the team is on the table.  If you are willing to send us expiring contracts, trade exceptions and draft picks you can have the entire roster.

Do you have a link to someone on the Celts claiming this? Even a shred of evidence that this is even being considered?

For the sole reason of the 10 million part of his deal becoming guaranteed in 6 days, it makes sense that IF Pierce is leaving we try and get it sorted out soon by then. If saving 10 Million in cap space doesn`t draw a good offer by end month then there should be no longer any rush to just dump him anywhere, or even trade him at all
