I posted a thread about trade value and the celts a while back.  I never ceases to amze me how our fans continually propse we trade our albatrosses for something of value in return.

Getting to terry, bass, and lee, I think the clipper rumors should have shown that they have zero to negative value.  And if a contending team is not willing to give up something (not even am expiring contract), then who will?

Now, I know the clippers are the clippers.  And rumors are rumors.  But my thinking is, the absolute best we could hope for these guys are comparable players at other positions (backup PG?) also on long term contracts.  I don't really think they are any teams that would give us an expiring (much less any value), for these guys.

I think something very similar was just discussed a couple of days ago.

I agree with you generally, there would have to be some unique circumstances for someone to want one of these guys.

Different teams with different rosters have different needs. One team not wanting a certain player doesn't imply other teams won't. The same player's value to different teams will vary based on their wants and needs.

Bass is a valuable player: he can play defense, he can finish around the rim, and he's got a few good spot up shots he can hit. He's not a $15M player, but he's a guy that every team should like to have, a few positives, not too many negatives.

Terry is washed out, and was a terrible signing. No team should ever be stupid enough to trade for him. He is only going to get worse, and if the C's can't package him for something, should amnesty him (if that's still an option).

Lee could be good on the right team. The bottom line is that the coach, and the personalities on the team make a big difference in how the team plays. He's not Ray Allen, II. Okay. But he can definitely hit a J, and can play some defense. He could start on a Toronto/Phoenix/Charlotte type team, and would be an improvement on what they have out there, in most cases. He could be a valuable bench contributor to an "also ran" kind of second round playoff exit team (e.g. Chicago, New York). He still has value.

The closer they get to the end of their contracts, the more value they have.  This off-season is probably the worst possible time to trade them in terms of value unless their salaries are needed to make a deal work.

Starting in January or so, Bass and Terry have value as non-useless veteran role players who provide depth of the bench.  Bass is also a guy good enough to plug into a starting line-up for an injured player who might miss a month or two.

In terms of deals, I think you are mainly looking at one of two types of trades:

Bass, Terry, or Lee for a worse player on a longer contract and a first-round pick (no way are you getting anywhere close to a top 20 pick for 2014, though).

Bass, Terry, or Lee for a former first-round pick who is in his third or fourth year with cracking his team's rotation, a second round pick, and filler to match salaries.

I concur, his height is his biggest drawback.  He is a tweener but can play.

I don't see anyone taking any of them off our hands this year without the C's overpaying to dump them.

I think NEXT year is when they become valuable if for no other reason than they're now expiring deals.  If they bounce back to form next year, all the better.  they help us and become more desirable in a trade

Just what every NBA player aspires to be called: "non-useless."
