Robinson makes $3.5M.  Wouldn't we need to send back salary thereby negating the whole point in Houston trading him in the first place?

That's why DJ White, Terrence Williams, and Shavlik Randolph have unguaranteed contracts.

Exactly. Trade the China Three, and Houston can cut them and pay little to nothing. And we get another asset.

Assuming he's healthy, Sully is a better player cut from the same prototype. Pass.

Really, Robinson was a picked a head of him and if memory serves made it further in the NCAA.  I think Robinson is a way better athlete.   Sully is more ready to play now but in 3-4 Robinson has a potentially higher ceiling.

Can you tell me a skill that Thomas Robinson has on JS? Rebounding? Defending? Scoring? Passing? So why would I wanna pay him far more and give up a 1st round pick when I have a player at his position at his age who is just plain better?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
There is no reason to believe that Robinson will be any less of a player than we thought last year. As the number 5 pick, he has a lot of potential. He is young, athletic, and is supposed to be quite the stud. I realize Sullinger is probably better right now, but Robinson wasn't supposed to be amazing right away. It's like everybody calling for Fab's head [to a lesser extent].

Like Gerald Green had a higher ceiling than Larry Bird.

I know very little about TR, other than the fact that he was in the same draft class (and was drafted much higher) than Sully.

That's why I asked the question.

Ah. I think TR is seen as a solid lunch-pail type player. Hard worker. Good attitude and willingness to learn. And some skill and upside to boot.

But it's weird that as a Top 5 pick he may be dumped twice in a year for lesser assets. Morey is no fool... I know he wants salary relief to make a run at DW12, but if he felt TR was a real asset, he'd keep him and sell on someone else.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd bring him in as a back up stretch PF. Let him develop his jumpshot and come in Ala Brandon Bass off the bench.
Then we can move Bass for another asset.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
