Rivers informed the Clippers on Friday afternoon that he no longer had interest in L.A.'s job, sources tell Y!  It's Celtics or TV now.

Wishful thinking, but maybe we aren't rebuilding; just reloading.

At this point it looks like Doc is going to walk for nothing this year (maybe a pick next off-season), Paul will be traded for some cap clearing picks, and KG will retire.  The only consolation to this entire debacle is that CP3 is going to leave Clips (I hope).  Who would want to stay with them after repeated blunders?  I mean..come on...tell your owner you want Doc and then have him drag his feet over a late 1st round pick in a starless draft.

I agree with everything you say, except that the pick couldn't be from this year's draft.  Since the Clippers didn't have a pick last year, they cannot trade this year's pick until after the draft.  So it was probably a 2014 or 2015 pick.

Maybe I am wrong in saying this, but I don't think Doc goes anywhere.

I think for Doc to just walk away from coaching for a year is even worse than coming back to Boston, because he looks like he walks with his tail tucked between his legs.

Also, I think the Celts look like clowns if after all this Clipper talk, they just let Doc walk for nothing.

After all that's happened, I think Danny gets tempted to bring back KG/Pierce and yes, giving it another shot.

At this point, it's probably the most logical choice.

If everyone just walks away and Ainge rebuilds, it's going to look like no one wants to play for Boston and no one wants to trade with Boston.

Gonna enjoy listening to Doc calling games with Breen and JVG next season.

The C's don't get nothing if Doc just walks away.  First, they probably save $6M a year.  Second, they can still negotiate a pick if he wants to coach again within the next three years.

This isn't true, actually.

The Clippers can trade their pick from this year.

The rule prohibits you from trading away picks in consecutive years in the same deal (or maybe in the same season?), but it doesn't prohibit you from trading your first round pick each and every year individually.

Right. But can they use that 6 million they save on Doc to sign another player? If not, then isn't that kind of meaningless?

Yup, Danny is holding all the cards here w/ all the coach firings something could pop up next year and we still can get something for him.

LOL @ Sterling and Clipper trolls who think Ainge was going to blink, watch CP3 leave and get no backlash from it either being they were cheap easy way out for him if he already had thoughts on bailing on them.

I think he will be back. They've already begun damage control with the article in the herald today. The press conference will be more of the same.

Doc wants to coach KG. KG wants to play or he would've retired by now.

Should both be in Boston next year.

It lowers operating costs, which shouldn't really matter to us as fans, but certainly matters to the ownership.

I don't believe anything- especially now that the league has made it clear there would have to be a dog and pony show before Rivers and Garnett could be allowed to change teams together.

No piece of news surfaced in any of this without the exact opposite news surfacing around the same time. That includes Woj breaking an impossible number of "it's dead" "its alive" "it's dead" stories.

Even if Doc did tell the Clippers this, there's just no way of knowing if it was sincere. Is this the same man who signed a 5 year contract when he only intended to coach for one? Or is that just lies too? There's just no way to know anything until documents are signed.

You can't make a trade so that you don't have a first-round pick for two consecutive future drafts.  It doesn't have to be your own pick.  Past drafts don't matter.  If you traded your pick for the 2012 draft, you can trade your pick for the 2013 draft so long as you have at least one pick for the 2014 draft (or if you acquired a 2013 pick from another team).
