Now that this Clippers debacle is over, I wonder if we could somehow land Chris Paul

I know we can't via free agency so it would have to be a sign and trade.

Just the thought of having to work with the Clippers again makes me sick, BUT if CP3 dictates to the Clippers that he wants to come here, then the Clipper would have no choice but to deal Chris for Rondo and whatever else (Sully or Bradley, etc.)

Imagine a starting team of CP3, KG and Paul Pierce. Then, Boston comes an instant free agent destination because of CP3.

I know it's not likely, but just a thought

Well, one assumes that the Clippers would be insane not to ask for Jeff Green and Rondo in this trade.

So we'd be looking at CP3, Bradley, Pierce, Bass, KG.

Which has about as much ceiling as the Celtics last year--KG and Pierce need to be 3rd and 4th options on offense for the regular season if they're really going to compete for a title, and getting CP3 doesn't do that.

Theoretically if CP3 actually wanted to play in Boston (he doesn't), the Clippers only real options would be to see him walk for nothing team like Dallas...or take what they can get from Boston in a sign-and-trade.

Well, I'd rather have CP3 over Rondo and Green.

Even if it guarantees we end up with another first or second round exit?

Our team, and any team with Pierce and KG, needs at least two guys ahead of them in the scoring priority list in order to succeed. If you can get CP3 without trading Jeff Green, that's fine, he'll play what would've been the Blake Griffin role if Doc, KG and Paul went to the Clips.

The biggest advantage that CP has over Rondo next year is that he won't be coming back from a season ending injury.

Nope -- CP3 didn't want to come here two years ago because the Big Three were too old. Why would he want to come here now?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
At this point, I don't see how he doesn't land in Boston...

I certainly don't want to give up Green, though, and would probably be for trying to open things up with that huge trade exception from Cleveland to get Smith or whoever. This would be more like a rewind than a rebuild, as we would be gathering assets in their prime rather than from the draft.

Yup. It's sad when you get a excited for a split second at the idea of a big player coming to Boston, til reality slaps you in the face and you realize, no big names want to come here :(

I don't know man...honestly, I prefer playoff Rajon Rondo over playoff Chris Paul.

I think Paul is bound to win at least one title, sooner or later. He's too good not to.

Dangerous thinking--there's an impressive list of players who were as good, or better, than Chris Paul who never won a ring.

That's true. But also don't forget that the NBA does not have the talent depth it used to and the league is driven by star players now, more than ever.

Right, but it's beginning to appear that we're in the throes of another Jordan-like scenario, where LeBron and co are the prohibitive favorites to make the Finals if not win the title every year for at least the next five years.

I wouldn't be surprised if many of the 10 best players in the NBA right now don't win rings.

It sounds like Paul wants to join/assemble the next superteam. We're a year away at least from being able to do that again. The only candidates right now are Houston, LA, Atlanta, and maybe Dallas from what I understand.

The only team CP3 is going to, is the Clippers.
Jeff Green - Top 5 SF
