The Docudrama has taken a new, and possibly fatal, turn. A league source just told the Herald that negotiations between the Celtics and Clippers over the release of Doc Rivers from his contract have ended. Though there is a slim chance that talks could resume for a third time, both sides appeared to acknowledge today that nothing can be gained.

"The Celtics' price (for Rivers) was a first round pick, and the Clippers weren't willing to do that," said the source, who added that it remained unclear if the Celtics could have even scored a second round pick for their coach of the last nine years. Though the Celtics' cancellation of a press conference today was believed to be a reaction to an improved offer from the Clippers, the source said the offer was never sweetened.

The press conference was cancelled not because of negotiations, but because Rivers needed additional time to ponder his future, which now appears to consist either of a return to the Celtics next season or a decision to walk away for a year or two. - Boston Herald

Adrian Wojnarowski: Clippers raised idea of future 2nd round pick for rights to Doc Rivers, but Celtics waiting on 1st rounder, sources tell Y! Talks nowhere.

The Clippers are pathetic, really a second rounder for Doc? Is it just me or are you guys also getting tired of this mess?

Honestly, I can't understand why Doc would want to coach there at this point.

Can you understand CP3 doing anything other than getting the hell out of dodge come July 1st? Not a good sign of things to come for him I wouldn't think.

After talks failed again on Friday, Doc Rivers will no longer pursue the Clippers coaching job, league source tells Y!

Doc is smarter than I thought he was.

Other than maybe Chris Paul I don't understand why he wanted to go there in the first place.
I knew before all of this that the Clippers and their owner was a mess. This whole thing just proves everything I knew about the Clippers.

I wouldnt believe that, Doc would do anything to avoid a rebuilding process. Clippers could be so much better if it wasnt for Sterling that moron.

Danny had better not just give away Doc for nothing, either Doc coaches this team and lives out his contract or go retire. Doc shouldn't have signed crap if he didn't intend on being here. Deal with it Doc!

Im a bit disapointed that the deal didnt go through. We are going to play just as bad as we did last season if we dont acquire a GOOD big man this off season.

Wasn't this all about Doc going where KG was being traded to?

I never got the sense that Doc "wanted" to coach in LA, it was that KG wouldn't want to play for any other coach.

Yup, this has got to be the biggest fiasco in the history of NBA and maybe all of sports. Furthermore, as a Celtic fan, I am frankly embarrassed.

Whelp I guess the Clippers weren't all that interested in Doc after all. At least Sterling wasnt, I shouldn't be shocked he had his GM's negotiating without the authority to close the deal, but I still am.
