So now the Clippers need to sign Doc first to prove the trade/Doc sign are not conditional.  They have said they won't even offer a single draft pick for Doc?

What is to stop them from (once we let Doc go) going back on their deal for KG entirely and telling us we get no draft picks at all?

If you ask me the Clippers management gone too far with their greed and insulted the Boston staff one too many times.  I say hang up the phone and put their number on ignore - permanently.

Sacramento
First call Sacramento, offer them Bradley, Lee, Sullinger and our #16 pick - see if they bite.

The aquisition of Cousins takes pressure off KG and allows him to move back to PF, while the development of Green takes pressure off Pierce - this is enough to convince both guys (And Doc) to return for another run this season with Rondo, Pierce, Green, Garnett, Cousins as our starting 5.

Next year Pierces $16M comes off the books.  This gives us two options:

1. Re-sign Pierce for one more season at a smaller figure to allow him to finish up his career with KG and allow both retire as Celtics.  After the final year Rondo's contract expires. With Cousins and Green still on long term contracts Rondo likely re-signs, allowing us to add some extra pierces to replace Pierce and KG.

2. Allow Pierce and KG to retire freely.  KG's $12M and Pierces $16M come off the books, bringing our cap figure down from $74M to $46M.  We now have $10M in cap space, plus we have Rondo, Green and Cousins to build around.

Either of these options allows us to contend this season, while still allowing us to remain competitive and avoid a rebuild two seasons down the track.  The combination of Rondo + Cousins gives us an elite base to build around, while Green will be perfect as the 'third guy' for years to come.

This all depends on the Kings being willing to trade Cousins of course, but if we can convince them this leaves us WAY better off than the Clippers deal.

Even the worst-case is really pretty good.  We give Cousins two years here (aligned with Rondo's contract) and by the end if it doesn't work out as planned, he will still be a supremely talented 24 year old big man so he will still have high trade value.

What does everybody think?  Assuming we can convince Sac to make the deal, I don't see how this can possible work out worse than the deal Doc is working at right now.

The only way we'd ever get Cousins is with Rondo, and I doubt SAC wants Rondo. We're not getting DMC.

I'd do this in a heartbeat if Sac would take that trade... which they won't. No way they trade Cousins for AB, Lee, a 2nd year player coming off back surgery and a pick outside of the lottery.

Sac would say all offer start with Rondo.

This. We have nothing Sac wants. Rondo is too old for a team that would clearly be in a rebuild. Not to mention he just tore his ACL...

Trade Danny and Doc and 2 first rounder for him

Me too ......only wish we could have had KG here to tame him ,

But noooooooooooooooooooooooooo, we have to trade KG.......or the world will end,

Everybody is in a big hurray  save the Celtics with this trade...save us from what..? a better deal with a little time and effort....dats when dem po decision s is mades........people need to stop and think about the consequences of there actions.

Does anyone think SAC would do: Boston 2013 1st round pick, LAC 2014 1st round pick (if rumored Rivers compensation comes through), Pierce (buyout), Bradley, and Sullinger for Cousins, Salmons (salary dump), Hayes (salary dump), and Outlaw (salary dump)? If the Celtics could obtain Cousins AND convince Garnett to stay for mentoring/ass kicking purposes, that would be stellar. I don't know that the Celtics have any other assets SAC would want. Perhaps if the Celtics end up moving Pierce and/or Garnett they could sweeten the pot.

If SAC is only interested in Rondo, I'd consider a Rondo for Cousins, Isaiah Thomas, and Salmons deal.

Salmons deal expires after the season so Sac doesn't really need to move him. They could amnesty Hayes if they wanted to dump him. Outlaw's contract is only for $3mill so no big cap killer.

Not nearly enough for them to move their most talented player.

I don't want to beat a dead horse but Sac would have no interest in Rondo. He'd likely bolt when his contract expires and he'll be nearly 30. Not a good idea to trade your 22 year old  "franchise" player for that.

If Sac moves Cousins (which I still doubt they will) they'll want very good young talent/high picks

If you check out the Kings blogs/forums they're all pretty much unanimous in their desire to resign DMC.

The ownership could decide to go another way considering they're new, but I'd think they'd like to appease their fan base.

They'd probably have to be blown away by the offer.

I thought Kings fans on Sacbee.com were quite mixed on Cousins this past season.

Some who loved his talent, wanted to keep him and try to get the best out of him. And many others who thought he was a problem child that needed to traded off for a piece they can actually build around.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Before I really wanted him to be here. But now without KG or Doc (presumably) I'm not so sure he'll be under control in Boston.

Then again, winning fixes everything, and he's sure as heck will win better here than in SacTo.

The reviews were quite mixed throughout the season, but I think they are really afraid that no big name free agent will want to head to Sacramento at any point in the near future. So they're clutching to DMC and Evans in the hopes that they can live up to their potential at some point.

Since DMC's trade value has taken a considerable hit they know they aren't going to be getting equal value back and because of their rough history with the lottery (only one number one pick EVER), it seems as if they are much happier spending now than moving DMC for picks/pieces and hoping they get lucky in the lottery.
