It is not a perfect trade, but it is a start.  We don't have a lot of options right now!
I don't see us winning it next year if we roll it back.  I know it stinks but it is time to start the rebuild.  Any pick in the first round gives you a chance at a good player.  How many people consider Sullinger to be an asset right now?  The 21st pick, I'll take it!!  Heck, Rondo was the 21st Pick!!  Looks to me like some of the best young players on our team right now where late first round picks!!  Of course you always need some luck in the draft even with a lottery pick.  I love getting first round picks for Doc!  He can just leave and we would have nothing, how is getting 2 first round picks anything but a good thing??

Let's not forget that late 1st round picks get sold for cash all the time... so it's not like late 1st round picks are gold.  I'm not too jazzed about the deal.

Yeah, Doc wants out and KG, along with PP, wants to win another championship-- don't we all.  I never thought the Bass, Terry, or Lee signings were good for the team because they ate up cap space.

Has anyone noticed that whenever there is a breath of future cap space DA mortgages it away.  We always seem to be buyers of someone else's junk parts and rarely, if ever, get to be shoppers in the high-end FA store.

Now, if DA is deliberately emptying the Celtics roster and tanking it next year then please dump those lousy contracts for expiring contracts. Clean up the accounting side of the house and start clean again in 2014 when the draft class is solid and the FA class is much stronger.

This trade is terrible. Terrible terrible terrible.

We don't get rid of any bad contracts.
We don't get any good draft picks.
The only asset we get is an overpaid backup.

Literally the only way this could be worse is if instead of Jordan we were getting Billups or something.

This doesn't help us AT ALL. We either need Bledsoe or to get rid of Terry. Without either of those, it is a completely lateral move, maybe even a step BACK.

Ugh. I can't believe this idiotic trade is not only going to go through, but there are people who actually like it.

I don't get it.  I don't see Doc coming back.  So if we get anything in return how is that a bad thing??  I LOVE KG and hate to see him go, but I don't know if he comes back even if this deal falls through.  Who else is calling us offering us a better deal???

no it isn't.  this doesnt do anything for the celtics. people making the argument that something is better than nothing just wait.  this is, in fact, nothing.

Why do people keep calling Jordan a "backup"?  He's started literally every game (and missed none) for the last two seasons.  And it's not like we've got any centers here that would start over him.

Sometimes nothing is better than something the NBA.

That's what it comes down to.

I'm on the fence here, but it is possible that if the deal goes through we may look back at it a few years from now and realize that we might've been better off getting nothing.

Then again, Jordan may improve and the draft picks may end up being good.  But this isn't as simple as the old adage that something is better than nothing.  It may not be.

You can put multiple first-round picks together to trade up into the lottery.

I like Jordan, I really do. I'm a fan of his. But his contract sucks and sets our rebuild back.

Jordan's overpaid, but only for 2 years - after next year he's an expiring contract we could trade, or after 2 we could sign him for a better rate, or S+T him to someone dumb enough to keep overpaying him.  And we're not getting under the cap this year whether KG retires or gets traded.

Either way he's not a backup by any means, and I'm not sure why I keep hearing so many posters calling him one.  He'd be our starting C until Fab Melo achieves his destiny of domination and takes all his minutes away ;)

I think that KG is retiring this season.  I think Jordan and two picks are only for Doc.

Jordan wasn't on the floor in crunch time...jordan's playoff numbers are brutal...that wouldn't be a problem on a team like the Heat where he could just rebound and play defense

but when you expect a guy that cannot shoot outside of 1 foot of the rim to be a 12-15 point scorer a game...then that is an issue. he isn't going to be playing with anyone that makes him better...certainly a downgraded line up after playing with paul, griffin, etc last season...

Good post - TP.

Also good point - Jordan is a starter. TP

Who says we're expecting him to be a main scorer? That burden will fall on Jeff Green, Rondo, Sully maybe and whoever else Ainge is bringing in. This is only "one" move.

Also excellent point about Jordan's contract. It's only for two years which means after thsi "one" season, he'll be valuable as an expiring contract in a bigger deal if that's what we choose to do.

I think Rondo can make Jordan a 12-15 a night scorer though, just on lobs, breaks and drive and dish stuff.

We need Jordan to play D and rebound, run the break as a trailer. That's it.

Danny will find other players to do the scoring.

Jordan averaged 8.8 points playing with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. Playing with Rondo is not going to add 7 points per game.

This team has no outside shooting anymore. They need Jordan to do more than play defense and run the break....they need him to play more than 24 points a game. That is pathetic for a guy making his money

I just think you expect way too much of him and Sully. Sully has yet to prove he can make it through an entire season and he is coming off back surgery. Getting 10 points a game from him would be a win.

Jordan is a second round pick that is a role player. his career numbers don't show that he can be someone that is a real piece of rebuilding...even in the trade market
