celts - clips. why doesnt danny realize he has the upper hand?

if the clips dont do this deal it's very plausible that CP3 walks away. if the clips do go out and hire shaw or lionel collins, they still don't get KG, and are still stuck with a bloated deandre joran contract - which lessens their ability to go after dwight howard, (because dwight wants all the time in the world on the court and deandre will be getting paid 10 mill to sit on the bench for 2 years - and donald strling being as cheap as he is, wouldnt allow that - plus if they trade blake and bledsoe to the lakers they'll have no power forward) as well as possibly not getting paul pierce later in the season because doc and KG arent in LA. they have to build a contender to keep CP3.

the celts realize that they arent winning a championship this year, so we arent trying to build a contender. if doc stays, kg stays.  if doc goes back to broadcasting kg retires and his salary comes off the books at the same time as caron butlers does for the clips.

so boston has no real reason to grab caron butlers contact since it does the same thing as KG's. if KG retires, paul pierce retires, and all their 27 million dollars comes off the books at the end of the season.

if im correct, the celtics get compensated if doc walks away to broadcasting anyways, so no need to worry about paying money there.

so basically, because the clips want CP3 so bad, and if he walks they are stuffed, the clips have all the reason to make the deal, and the celtics dont really have much to lose since the money will come off the books at the end of the season.

if danny waits until after the draft to do the deal, the clippers will only get more desperate with rumors of CP3 moving to other teams, and being courted by other general managers, so the clips will be forced to act so keep their star.

the celtics theoretically have all the leverage.

the only downside for the celtics is the media attention, but so what? the clips are receiving the same media attention if the deal goes bad.

i hope so. ive always had faith in dannys abilities as a negotiator. it's his best quality in my opinion. but with all the rumors about a TERRIBLE deal for the celtics, especially from trusted sources like wojo, my faith is starting to waver.

OK, break it down.  The Celtics have KG who is a great player and leader but one who has not played a full season without fairly significant injury since what, 2008?  The we have Doc who is a really good coach who players like.

The Clips have a young center who can't shoot but shows some promise and a back up PG who could start for a few teams (but not the Celtics or the Clips).

Then you have Chris Paul who likes KG and Doc but who rumor has really wants to play with Dwight Howard.  I don't see a whole lot of leverage for anyone so maybe it is the Lakers that have some leverage here.

actually in the 2008 season kg played 71 games. this season he played 68. no real difference. doc is a coach who players like, and thus doc in himself is a recruiter for a team.

being a young center doesnt mean a thing since he is about 25 years old and players rarely get better after the age of 25. 25 - 30 is where players hit their peak. so deandre jordan doesnt really have much promise. he's at his peak.

eric bledsoe is a very good player and could start for the celtics, if danny decided to trade rondo either now or next year in the draft to grab wiggins. bledsoe is def going to be cheaper than rondo, since in about 2 years rondo is going to ask for a max contract.

even if you are correct about the lakers having leverage, that would also mean with the argument ive posted above, that the clippers are backed into a corner and have zero leveage in either deal. either with the celtics or the lakers. if the clippers dont want to do a deal, then say no. the celtics dont really lose anything. its better to say no deal than do a bad deal.

He's too eager to make a trade. How many times has he tried to trade Allen and Pierce the past few years? Perkins for Harden ended up Perkins for Green. Hope that doesn't happen with this Clips deal.

Unfortunately the Clippers realize that Doc ain't returning. They also realize that the Celtics aren't getting any better offers for KG at 37 years old. With Doc no returning, they know that we must take their package or else KG retires as soon as Doc is gone and we get nothing. He's between a rock and a hard place.
Dannys obviously come to the decision to blow it up. Doc wants another shot with KG and Pierce. This situation was unavoidable and it's now down to whether or not Chris Paul is demanding the trade go through or not. IM not sure how Danny can get enough info on CP3 to pry Bledsoe out of them too.
I'm assuming Danny called off the talks to try & gain us back some leverage, giving Houston and dallas more time to float Cp3 +dwight rumors in the media, thus getting CP 3 more impatient and the LAC brass nervous enough to give up bledsoe. It's dannys last card and his next strategy will be to introduce some rival competition for KG and Pierce around draft night. He's probably up right now calling everyone and asking what they'll give us for KG, Pierce and even Doc.
Time to scrape back some urgency into the Clippers minds. Best way to do that? A few 'sources' indicating other teams want KG and/Doc.

you must not have read everything i wrote. the clippers have arguably the cheapest owner in the entire league. if the clippers get dwight howard they will be without a power forward, and will also have deandre jordan still on the books for 2 years 10 mill a season. no way donald sterling arguably the cheapest owner in the league will let that happen.
