Cross Vinny off the list, then.  Vecsey has the credibility of Tanguay's gut.
or Sherrod's sources?

I would be very happy with Brian Shaw. I think he is one of the best head coaching prospects in the league. I am very optimistic about him.

I love the Triangle offense. It is beautiful. It's a pity we have Rondo. Can't run it with him here. It would be a waste of his talents. I am confident Brian Shaw with all his experience in different systems will comfortable running a different type of offense to better suit Rondo. So I am not concerned about that.

I'd be happy with Shaw, too.

He fits my profile of an ideal new head coach -- young, unproven, but with lots of credible experience.  Hungry to show that he can be a top flight head coach.

Ideal head coach if you're trying to win is prob Larry Bird right?  That'd be awesome.

But since we're trying to tank... hire ML Carr.  Or honestly, anyone who is willing pull a 2007 Doc Rivers and intentionally lose games for the sake of the team.  That means playing our raw rookies in late game situations and pretending like you are just "developing" them.  I remember when Ryan Gomes flat out admitted it in an interview that he was benched in the 4th quarter, because winning wasn't a priority.  We need a coach willing to risk his reputation (in the face of the offbase hysteria of the fanbase) by playing Fab Melo in crunch time.

Yeah I don't understand  the Shaw hate I thought he was pretty well respected

Probably depends on how long you've been following the team.

Maybe the next choice will be Jon Barry.

Right, if you think of him as a Laker assistant or a Celtics draft pick.

I also agree with the awesomeness of the Triangle, and the general awesomeness as Shaw as the new head coach, but it doesn't really jive with our roster (specifically Rondo).

I don't get the Larry Bird Love

hope not.  hate Shaw with a passion for the way he acted when drafted and then left the C's.  never lived up to the potential
While my hate for Shaw is not Pitino-esqe, I hold him with the same disdain as Rick Fox.

I honestly don't think it matters who we get for a head coach for the next few years now that we have flipped the switch.  Just get a young and up and coming guy who is decent with young players and someone who doesn't need 5 million + a year.

I remember the Gomes incident.  Ryan Gomes was definitely one of my favorites, but even I had to laugh when he complained that the reason we were losing games was because we weren't playing him enough.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
The only thing that worries me about Shaw is the Triangle principles. I don't think we have the roster to fit that kind of system.

I want Patrick Ewing coaching the Celtics.

He'll be a very good mentor to Sully and DeAndre (i'm assuming the trade pushes through), especially Jordan.

My concern is, will Rondo listen to him. In the end, it's all about Rondo.

I am old enough to remember how Brian Shaw hated the Celtics when we drafted him.  He did everything he could do to avoid wearing the green.  The guy sickens me. No olive branches for this purple and gold blooded clown.

Great coaches work with the pieces that are given to them. Thats why blokes like Dantoni are Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing horrid coaches

I think Brian Shaw will make a very good coach, maybe even great.

Not sure how great a fit Shaw will be, especially if he tries to impose the triangle offense. With Rondo, Green, Bradley, potentially Jordan, etc. an uptempo attack is something that would be much more ideal given our roster.

Quote
From Ric Bucher of CSNBayArea.com:

Shaw’s calling card is that he learned the Triangle under Phil Jackson, he of the 11 championship rings. Shaw helped win three of those rings as a player and two as an assistant coach. Several teams who have interviewed him say the Triangle is the offense he has proposed. The consensus around the league is that Shaw is the NBA equivalent of a great Concorde pilot: his resumè says he’s good at flying something no one believes can get off the ground.

As one of the GMs who has interviewed him explained: “The Triangle has never worked for anyone, anywhere, other than Phil, and that was only when he had Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. Let’s face it, how many of his assistants have gone on to be successful head coaches? Whether it’s fair or not, the perception is that it was all Phil and the Lakers’ ability to get whatever they needed. Another part is that the Lakers didn’t hire Shaw when they had the chance. If they didn’t think he could make it work for them, with all of their resources, can you really go to your owner with a convincing argument as to why he’s going to make it work for your team?”
