KG's a loyal guy. He's also a very proud guy and someone who doesn't want to be a burden on a franchise. I remember after the Heat beat us last season, you could hear him go up to Doc and say, "Do you want me back?" ...
It's almost a ridiculous question. Why on earth would KG, the heart and soul of this franchise and arguably the best per-minute player on the court (certainly defensively) have to ask his coach, "Do you want me back?". I took it as KG saying in that moment... he'd retire if Doc didn't want him there anymore. Which is absurd, but that's how it was reading to me in the moment. HOw could that guy still be looking for validation from his coach after all he's done. That's just the kind of guy KG is.
So at this point... I imagine KG would love to remain in Boston as long as Boston will keep him. But if Boston is hellbent on getting some garbage value for him, he reluctantly will agree to a trade to the Clippers (where he lives) as long as his coach comes with him. I'm sure KG would prefer to remain a celtic... but Boston doesn't seem to want him any more... so it is what it is.
