Yes, expiring contracts can be bought out. that is why they are sought after for salary dump purposes.

The player has to agree to buyout.

Probably have to give Caron $5-6 million (of the $8mil) to get rid of him.

I would rather just keep him and use him as a backup SF. We are going to have the pay that new backup SF some money anyway. No savings to be had.

I would only buy out Caron if Boston went into full on tank mode.

Why would we do that? We don't need the cap space this year, we could possibly dangle him at the trade deadline, and he IS a starting-caliber SF.

Heck, reroute Caron to Cleveland. It's said they want a vet SF, and they'd have the cap space for him.

I think you hold him through the deadline, in case you can use him to facilitate a deal as the 3rd team and pick up an asset.

After the deadline, if he wants to go away for any sort of savings, you might as well - especially if it's tank time. Builds goodwill to let him go sign on with a contender, and doesn't hurt us.

He's also had some health issues, so it could be a win-win to give him lots of time off and showcase his skills in limited action. He'll appreciate, it'll increase his value, and it supports tanking to not overplay him...

Any contract can be bought out - you just have to eat more money. Not even sure what the question is.

Yeah just play him and offer him up to teams that need a SF.
