listening to the latest podcast with Russilo, Simmons came up with this "best case" that he was trying to talk himself into liking

Clippers cave and give us Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan (not even worried about the picks)

We trade Pierce to Cleveland for two later first rounders.

We use the trade exception from the Pierce deal and throw in Bradley to the Hawks for Josh Smith (S&T) - note: I think that's impossible as a straight up deal - would have to have to be two deals as a package I think

so our new roster looks like this

Rondo
Bledsoe (as a SG?)
Smith and Green (don't they duplicate each other a lot?)
Sullinger and Bass
??? at center

still have Terry, Lee on the books

Now, even as he threw this out, he kind of laughed it off as a bad idea, but it is interesting thinking from a number of different angles.

By the way, Rondo and Smith on the same team without Doc or KG or even Pierce kinda terrifies me.

How about start:

Rondo
Bledsoe
Green
Smith
Jordan

Bench:  Sully, Bass, etc...

Trading Pierce to Cleveland is just a slap in the face.  That said, why do the Cavaliers want Pierce?  He's not a piece of the long-term future, but he might be enough to jeopardize getting a lottery pick in a very good draft next year.

Because the cavs would receive cap space and Paul pierce in turn would leave to LA to join Doc n KG

Cleveland stated they want to make the playoffs this coming year, and not be back in the lottery again for a long time. Well, that's what the little guy Gilbert said anyways, which most likely echoes what his family thinks.

Simmons' case for trading PP to Cleveland is that it makes too much sense. Savvy vet showing younger guys how to win and play in big moments while still productive on an expiring deal. PP playing for his next contract and primed to have a good season. CLE goes to playoffs. Then, that playoff progress and young, successful core will entice LeBron (or other star) to come fill PP's spot the following season.

The cavs wouldn't gain cap space in trading for Pierce. They don't have any terrible contracts to get themselves out of. It would be a win now move.

Right.  And a win now move is silly.

They can probably do better with their $15+ million in cap space than to take on Pierce, who will put a kink in their rebuilding plans.

Why would CLE do that? Completely unrealistic.

I think the best trade would be to try and get Gordon Hayward here. He'd fit PERFECTLY in Boston, in my opinion. Great defender, great size, and great scorer. In my opinion, one of the best pure scorers.

Simmons point was that the Cavs have to start winning games and Pierce helps them do that and doesn't tie up their cap space long term in the process

also, I forgot in my lineup above that Jordan is the center, so there's that

A trade exception and Bradley isn't enough for the Hawks to do a S & T with us for Smith.  They don't need the cap space so I think you'd have to trade them Bledsoe also...

My ideal scenario:
Tree-way deal:

BOS: out KG, Doc to Clippers and #16 to Suns
     in: Gortat, Morris, #5, #25
LAC: out Bledsoe, Jordan, #25
     in: KG, Doc
PHO: out Gortat, Morris, #5
     in: Bledsoe, Jordan, #16

Then we trade Pierce to Dallas for Marion and #13.
We draft Alex Len at #5, Shabazz Muhamed at #13 and Ricky Ledo at #25.

Our team post trade looks like:
Rondo, Williams, Terry
Bradley, Lee, Ledo
Green, Marion, Muhamed
Sullinger, Bass, Morris
Gortat, Len, Melo.

Not a bad starting point with Rondo, T-Will, Bradley, Ledo, Lee, Green, Muhamed, Sullinger, Morris, Len and Melo. Possibility are endless...Lee, expiring contract of Marion, Ledo/Muhamed, Morris + future pick for Josh Smith or Kevin Love or ...

I don't really understand the appeal of trading away KG and Pierce only to tie up a bunch of future salary in Josh Smith.

Josh Smith is a nice player, but in my view he's the kind of guy that if you added to the group we already have, it would make us a lot more competitive.

But I wouldn't want to build around him, especially if the other core guys are Rondo and Deandre Jordan.  You really couldn't play them all at once because the floor spacing would be so terrible.

Jeff Green is the only guy in that proposed starting lineup who can create his own shot from mid-range or further out.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Wow, that actually seems like it would be the best for ALL teams involved. Why would ANY of the teams turn that down?

Good trade. Too bad I'll have to wait until October 1 to make it happen in NBA 2k14 :(

Just sold 2k13.
