Lakers: "Would never" trade Dwight

The Los Angeles Lakers have rebuffed overtures from the Los Angeles Clippers about a sign-and-trade for Dwight Howard.

Howard and Chris Paul have reportedly been in touch about the possibility of playing with each other next season.

"They will never do it," said a source on the Lakers' interest in working with the Clippers on a Howard trade.

But Dwight Howard would do it. They best do it or they'll lose Dwight Howard for nothing.

I don't get why they wouldn't do it.

I get not wanting to help their rivals, but they would pass on a top-20 player when they could lose Howard for nothing to Dallas or Atlanta? Even Cleveland helped facilitate LeBron leaving because they at least got some draft picks as he scorned them.

Cutting off their nose to spite their face? Fine by me.

I hope Dwight leaves and they really do get nothing in return. The wheels would definitely come off (amnesty Kobe or Gasol?), and it would be glorious. They could actually enter an uncharacteristic rebuilding phase. There are no Shaq's heading into free agency or Kobe's in the mid 1st round.

Although you just know if they lose Dwight, amnesty Gasol, Kobe misses 75% of the season, they are brutal.... then they win the lottery and get Wiggins.

on the Laker blogs.........it is almost universal belief amoung laker faithful that if MDA. was fired ! then Howard would stay

they seem to think Howard is leaving because of their coach.   

I disagree,  I think he wants to leave anyway.  Kobe is old and crippled  and will never be Kobe again........they are in denial over that fact.

They might as well trade him,  or he'll play for the team that can set himself and CP3 up together.  or he'll play for Houston with Hardin

Unless th Lakers fie MDA , hire Shaw , I'm hearing, Howard is walking on Th Lakers.

Again ....Howard has a huge amount of the NBA tied in knots till he decides,    his indecisive ness.....has basically led Doc to lose his mind over lusting coaching,  CP3 an Dwight on the Clippers......or at least he is dreaming about it...

Lakers need to put the pressure on DH to make a choice....before that whole team is totally destroyed over a person that NEVER really wanted to be a Laker in the first place........they trapped him with a crooked trade of a broken player.  So I don't feel sorry for LA

I really hope Dwight walks and leaves LAL and move over to a team where he would want to play without LAL getting in return. That way all Orlando fans will finally rejoice. At least they get back at LAL after losing 2 franchise players  - first, Shaq who helped LAL win 3 titles and second, Dwight.

The only thing (well, almost only thing) LAL has right now is Dwight's Bird rights. Oh my, it does not even mean that they have a hold on D12. They just have better money offer which could easily be beaten by big bucks coupled with several chances of getting in the title series, if he lands to a team playing alongside CP3.

Of course, LAL's best shot is to acquire CP3 to play with Dwight so that the latter stays with them. That would mean LAL spending more than two hundred million dollars in the next 4 - 5 years for the 2 players alone. Are their pockets deep enough to go down with this transaction? I hope they do not pursue this course of action because it betrays the good intentions and provisions of the new CBA and the small market teams' pursuit to, at least, relevance in the league and to all pro basketball fans worldwide. Another option is to spite their crosstown rival by sending Dwight (via S&T) to a title contending East teams i.e. Chicago, New York or Brooklyn. This way, they remain relevant in the West and let the Heat handle another Eastern force.

They very well may do this.....first of all they are not there to help the LAC become a SUPER team and wreck their power base , to let their next door neighbor win a title is just in bad taste and not Mitch's style (laker) and  second Mitch I would believe would rather have the huge cap space for FA's freed from D12 departure. 

DH either resigns as Laker or walks to Houston , where I think it might be possible to unload assets to build a great team...that might include CP3 

I think DH land where ever CP3 thinks they both can land together.  At least they'll try.

And this is exactly why the Clippers would be stupid to not give us Bledsoe. They already aren't getting Howard, and now they're trying to lose out on Doc, KG, possibly Pierce, and, most importantly, Chris Paul.

I think if the Clippers don't pull the trigger , giving DA all he wants ,  then Howard becomes more likely to remain a Laker and gives it another shot with MDA as his coach.

or at least Houston becomes the landing ground for CP3 and DH ....with Clippers left with no CP3 and a suck nose team they were shown to be when NO CP3 was on the court.

Bledsoe is NO proven court leader , just a good player.

Doc should be hung out to dry by Wyc.

What were you expecting them to say?

No team comes out and says they will let their star player agree to a sign and trade to let the player leave when they still have a chance of re-signing of him.

We won't get a clear answer from LA until (if) Dwight Howard outright refuses to re-sign with the Lakers + LAL's management and ownership believes that to be true. Then they will reevaluate and then we will get an answer as to whether they will sign and trade Dwight Howard or not. Not before then.

This here, above, is only posturing. Nothing definite whatsoever.
