This is definitely not the way to go about a rebuild. If we happen to make this Clippers deal, we're gonna get 40 wins every season.

If we're gonna rebuild, we gotta get rid of everybody.

Rondo/Bledsoe
Bradley/Terry
Green/Lee
Bass/Sullinger
Jordan/Randolph

Far too good of a team to tank with. That's a guaranteed eighth seed.

Might as well just keep KG/Pierce/Doc.

I really believe Pierce is gone regardless of the Clippers deal. Either we trade him to Houston or Dallas or we cut him.

Rondo is out for about half the season and won't return to 100% next season anyway. He will need a full year to get back to speed.

So yes, that team, assuming we do the Clippers deal, is a lottery lock, in the year of a very deep draft.

Plus, if we hire Del Negro, we are a lottery lock even if we keep Pierce and KG. Del Negro knows losing.

Is this team really a lottery lock? This team can totally compete with Toronto or Philly. We're gonna be fighting for the eighth seed and we're gonna get the fourteenth pick; Bucks-land, aka the worst land.

And if Pierce stays, we're definitely at least a seventh seed.

I disagree I think this is exactly how you rebuild.

You get something back for the aging stars. Picks and assets.

You can flip those assets for a bigger prize. We also still have Rondo and Sully.

I believe a deal like this could really jump start the rebuilding process. We don't need to go lottery to get back into contention with assets

I also have to disagree with you

I think this team can compete AND I think with the right coach can turn some heads. (Probably not VDN). I think on paper, we're easily 8th seed. A good coach can push that up. Oh, and a good shooter, will set it off.

I think you let Bledsoe and the other guys make some trade bait out of themselves. You let JG get a taste of essentially carrying a team. You let Rondo continue to grow as a leader and then in 2014, if your record is too good, you sell assets for a good pick up, free agent.

I'm confident is DA's drafting skills. He picked, Jeff, AB, Rondo, Sully and they're great.

I'd rather be stuck in middle land than suck land all the time. Still have to sell tickets.

No my friend TANKING is the wrong way to go about a rebuild.

Collecting assets THATS the way to rebuild. This is a coup for the Celtics. We are 8th seed anyway with KG and PP, why in the world would you prefer less options?

I'd rather Jordan, Bledsoe and 2 picks over nothing any day. You can always just trade them both away for more picks and we are back in the exact same spot we would be with KG and PP walking away.

I'll be p---ed if we win more than 10 games next year. We need to have a worse roster than the Bobcats a few years ago. Give away Rondo for Picks...give away everyone and put together an expansion team type roster. Thats the only way the Celtics will ever compete again. We can have all of the cap space in the world but no one will come. Our weather is terrible

Then you're in tough luck. This team is WAY too good to win 10 games; we're gonna win 40 at the least while making the playoffs as a 6-8 seed. Just where we won't be contenders or lottery candidates.

Yup.  Connor gets it.

Although, I'm not enamored with this Clippers stuff, asset accumulation is the way to go.  Give yourself flexibility to move around while keep a guy like Rondo.  Sure, you're not gonna get top 5 picks but as long as you're not overpaying guys and crippling your cap with long term deals for mediocre talent, you shouldn't be floating around in that dreaded .500 purgatory year after year.

You don't strip the cupboard bare, go into tank mode, and pray the ping poll balls to bounce your way.  Seen that happen before and it's not pretty & rarely works.

Can anyone enlighten me on why the Raptors and Bucks haven't won championships yet?

I'll give you a hint: they tried to do what we're doing now.

This team could barely post a winning record and went into the playoffs as the 6th seed WITH Doc, Peirce, KG and Rondo not coming off major surgery.

They will be far worse than they were last season.

I think this is absolutely correct!  Assets and luck (the more you have of either or both), the shorter the rebuild.  You can't control luck as much as you can control garnering assets.  It is not about tanking as a strategy in my opinion as this relies exclusively on luck -- bad idea.

I do believe that best of both worlds happens with this trade -- build up assets AND get into the lottery.  Rondo takes his time and this team (leaderless, young, and not used to playing together) loses a bunch of games.  Hopefully, a lot of hard fought close ones.

So basically as a fan, I'm going to have to watch Rondo and Green waste their primes away, as well as the Celtics play great basketball yet still lose by a few points for eighty-two games to get into the lottery and hope to contend for a championship in five years.

Okay. I'm sure Bledsoe and Jordan will be enamored.

because Tanking and hopng the ping pong balls go our way has worked out soo well before??

if it did we would have Tim Duncan and/or Kevin Durant.

danny knows the best way to build a contendor is to acquire assets/picks and cash in at the right time
