All this talk of Doc, KG, and Pierce going possibly as a trio to the Clippers is making me fume as a  diehard Celtic supporter since 1976.

Essentially, what this means, if there is truth to the matter, is that Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers believe that Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are a definite upgrade to Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green. Chris Paul has perhaps superior offensive skills to Rajon, however, Rajon has better playmaking, defensive and intangible skills (ie. rebounding, etc) overall.

Blake Griffin is a highlight film player who scores a great deal of his points on fast breaks and alley hoops. He has little inside game, is a poor shooter, is not a creative offensive player, and is poor defensively overall - he is,however, a good rebounder and a very likeable player.

Jeff Green has shown in the 2nd half of season, that he is a 20 pt a game scorer, with a great outside shot, a good overall offensive game, esp. on the fastbreak, and is a tenacious defensive player. His weakest area is rebounding, which is one of the Celtics weaknesses overall.  Jeff should improve significantly this season as he is 1 year away from his heart surgery and will feel completely freed of any mental blocks the surgery may have caused. Overall, I think Jeff will become a top 5 Small Forward in the NBA this upcoming season.

So, If I am Jeff or Rajon I would be mad as hell when I read these stories about Doc and Ainge maybe negotiating a deal to join the Clippers. This a clear referendum on the lack of faIth Doc and Ainge have in Jeff and Rondo's ability to carry this team to the promise land!

I am so livid and p---ed by these Clipper statements, I just hope Rondo and Green have just one iota of the anger that I am feeling inside. Men, that means you Jeff and you Rajon, it is time to raise some hell and to use this fire to propel you to new heights and show the f...ing world who Rajon Rondo and who Jeff Green are!!!!

Men, show the world what you are made of....this has become a referendum on your abilities to carry a team to the promised land. I can't wait to see how you respond.

I BELIEVE IN YOU BOTH!

I wouldnt be. The Clippers are in a much better position to win now and netting Jordan, Bledsoe, and Butlers expiring among other pieces would give us some nice young assets to build around and still be an Eastern playoff team.

Rondo might not be ready for the beginning of the season anyway. Its a smart move by Ainge to be kicking the tires on what might be available to us to benefit the teams future. Rondo and Green probably want to get out and run more anyway.

The only thing that will make me "mad as hell", is if Danny takes back DeAndre Jordan.

Talk about $10m worth of yuck.

I gave you a TP for the fiery speech, but I'm guessing that both Rajon and Jeff have been around the league long enough by now to realize how these things work, and how rumors (many of them often having very little basis in actual fact) can take on a life of their own and get wildly overblown in both the paid and the amateur media.

I doubt they are paying as much attention to the circus as we are.  In some ways, I'm sure it's nice to not be at the center of all the chatter.

You single out two players ... Rivers and anyone following him won`t play two on two with CP and BG. Today clippers look (much imho)  better than the C`s. That`s what counts and not whether paul is better than RR

well.....if you want to get right down to bare bones about this whole situation ........

here we are the Celtics and several other teams , worst off is the Lakers, but multiple teams , coaches, Tv contracts, deals, bringing back players, likemGarnet, CP3 ,  And a multitude of other players are at risk be traded all because of one MAN.

DWIGHT HOWARD

if you look at the root of all this mess .....it is that blank blank Howrd not committing to playing SOMEWHERE.......

when Howard makes up his mind ......then the rest of the pieces will fall quickly into place

Howard won't commit,  so CP3 won't either till  Howard lands ...... and then it just goes from there............

Howard has once again brought the off season NBA to a halt.

I wish he would sign a 10 year contract and stay somewhere anywhere. and quit screwing up the NBA acting like  a 10 year old............plain stupid.

and further more,  look at the Clippers record without CP3 on the court ,  it's horrible.........so they are no better off with Doc as coach without CP3.......... With a healthy Rondo and Sully , Pierce and KG ..... the Celtics are the better team. with or without  Doc,

Clippers are junk without. CP3 ........ Doc would have a better team with Celtics .......

so you see ...until Howard lands,   Clippers can't return CP3 ,   and if CP3 isn't on the Clips ,  then Doc won't go to that hell. hole

problem is not every GM or coach or team can wait out Howard's decision ....... CP3 is a guilty as Howard , trying to land himself on the same team......what a mess.

to think Doc thinks so little of the Celtics to get involved in this mess .......shows his immaturity and how loyalty h has to the Celtics.

I think the younger guys on our team, especially Rondo and Green, and to some extent Bradley, have been looking forward to the chance to be the main guys on the team once KG, Pierce, and Ray/Terry are gone.

They may have been good teammates and patiently awaited their time, but all decent NBA players, and many non-decent players, want their chance to shine.

Wow, apparently I am in the minority where I just don't see what the big deal is with Rondo and Jeff Green.

Almost as if they are the next Jordan/Pippen, the way some talk about them.

And now there's comparisons of Rondo/Green to CP3 and Blake??? Really? ???

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Two Things.

Chris Paul has perhaps superior offensive skills to Rajon, however, Rajon has better playmaking, defensive and intangible skills (ie. rebounding, etc) overall.

IMO, nobody in the league is a better play maker than Chris Paul. Rondo is a better passer, in terms of getting the ball from point a to point b. However, play making which is a combination of play calling, recognizing + exploit mismatches, manufacturing baskets by either scoring your self or through proxy nobody does better than CP3. Defensively you could go either way and rebounding from a guard is like assisting for a big man it's not what your really expect from the position, but it doesn't hurt.

Blake Griffin is a highlight film player who scores a great deal of his points on fast breaks and alley hoops. He has little inside game, is a poor shooter, is not a creative offensive player, and is poor defensively overall -.

False.

Griffin stepped into the league a more creative scorer than Green. Jeff Green is one of the least creative scorers I've seen in a long time. You pretty clearly show your bias when you knock Griffin's offensive creativity yet praise Jeff Green the master of the straight line right hand drive.

Agreed. Good lord. I love Rondo too, but take the green-tinted glasses off for a second. The only three players who have ever averaged 13 APG for a season are Magic, Stockton, and Isiah, and the only one who's done it more than once is Stockton, and anyone who says Rondo-to-Green is anywhere in the same vicinity as Stockton-to-Malone is kidding themselves.

As for the OP's argument, I think you're being a little melodramatic here as well. I think Paul versus Rondo for who's the better PG is an interesting debate; I'd take Paul for now by a hair until Rondo becomes a better shooter, but I can't fault someone for picking Rondo instead. But where you lose all credibility is by suggesting that Green is a better player than Griffin. I'm sorry, but you're just wrong. At best, Griffin and Green are equal, but Green has shown absolutely nothing since he's came into the league to suggest that he's anything more than a solid complementary player. I like him, and I like having him on the Celtics, but he's nowhere near the cornerstone that Griffin is, and I think it's clear because there are A LOT more teams lining up to trade for Griffin than for Green, and it has very little to do with his contract.

I mean, I'm not even sure Green is anything better than a middle-of-the-pack starter at the moment. You're saying that Green is better than Griffin right now, so let's assume we're talking one season, in a vacuum, no injuries. Assuming we list Green as a PF, I would argue that the following PFs -- in no particular order beyond stating that everyone listed is, in my opinion, better than him at the moment -- would be as follows (keeping in mind that I'm listing Duncan as a C but KG as a PF):
Garnett
Griffin
Z-Bo
Aldridge
Josh Smith
Lee
Love
West
Dirk
Ibaka
Tobias Harris
Thaddeus Young
Faried
... and an argument might be able to be made for Gasol, Boozer, Ilyasova, and Anthony Davis depending on tastes.

Now let's call Green a SF and do the same exercise, again in particular order beyond saying they're better than Green:
Lebron
Durant
Melo
Paul George
Pierce
Rudy Gay
Batum
Parsons
Iguodala
Kawhi Leonard
Deng

... and maybe Gallinari, and I'd call Turner about equal. Shorter than the PF list, no doubt, but still a long list.

Given all that, how can you suggest that Green is better than Griffin? In 5 years, perhaps Green can make up enough ground and Griffin can regress, but what evidence have we been given so far to suggest that Green will grow much beyond what he was the year before the heart surgery and this past year? Remember that we all though Tony Allen was going to be an amazing SG based on what he did for a string of games before injuring himself a few years back, but he never delivered on that promise (he's a great defensive SG, sure, but no one's rooting for his offense.) At some point we have to recognize the realities of the players we have. Green seems like a great guy to be around, and he's a good player, but he's not a great one. He's a #3 option, at best, on a contending team.

i dont think its rondo and jeff green
i think it's the bench. billups, crawford, odom, even turiaf and hollins were just a great bench group, who produced more than the celtics bench.
young starting 5 and veterans off the bench? sounds like ring hunting to me.

I don't think that the duo of Rondo/Green is on par with the duo of CP3/Griffin.  Blake Griffin is already a considerably more valuable player than Jeff Green, and, presumably, he's going to keep getting better.

Rondo and Paul, on the other hand, are fairly comparable players.
