Now that the NBA’s prime coaching pool is shrinking by the day as Doc Rivers contemplates his Celtics future, Danny Ainge has no choice but to consider a backup plan if his coach of the last nine seasons leaves.

Two league sources with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed yesterday that if Rivers does indeed leave, former Clippers coach Vinnie Del Negro will receive serious consideration as his replacement.

this confirms we're tanking. Picking the worst available coach is the start of that.

Excuse me while I jump off the tallest thing I can find.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Is it safe to say this will be another pitino era?
I think it's a joke, they can't consider him when there are at least 2 better coaches on the market right now.
Unless they want to be a 0.150 team to go high on draft.

I guess they aren't expecting to bag Chris Paul with a S&T as part of any Doc deal.

Maybe Danny needs one more nudge to assure that KG agrees to a trade when the Doc deal goes down.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Danny is smart.
Get as bad as possible from coach down. TANK BABY!
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

might as well pull in the local CYO coaches as options too -- be about the same quality.

Another day, Another source. I don't know about these "sources" man. They seem to know a lot about what tha C's (more specifically Doc) is going to do without anyone within tha organization coming out to say anything. If this specific rumor is true, I don't kno why Del Negro would be given serious consideration when there's still B.Shaw, Lionel Hollins, and George Karl out there unless Danny is looking to tank for a shot at Wiggins.

I still believe in Ainge's words about Doc returning more than I do these "sources" but this is kind of getting annoying and if Doc really is leaving he should just come out and say so to dead all these rumors.
