Bleacher Report isn't exactly a reputable source for news and rumors.

For those who are trashing BR - it's really just an ESPN story that they're linking to.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/9384172/doc-rivers-los-angeles-clippers-mutual-interest-sources-say

That being said, ESPN isn't much better either.  It's basically Eric Gordon and DeAndre Jordan for KG and Doc.  I really want Blake Griffin even though I know he isn't really a title piece, because he is just so [dang] fun to watch.  I don't really like this trade that much.  If DeAndre could hit a free throw it would be a lot better, but you basically can't play him in the 4th quarter of a playoff game.  We already have Rondo.  What is the point?

  • Let's Go Celtics!
This article is just a mash-up of Broussard's "sources hint that it's time for a change" story, February's LAC/BOS trade rumors, and the "LAC would be interested in Doc if he becomes available" storyline. There is no new information here, just a rehash of rumors we've heard ad nauseum with a little conjecture tossed in for good measure.

No way they toss in Griffin?  But I would eat that up if they did.  Griffin/Butler for KG/PP and Doc.

Yeah give me Griffin that is the only one i want from that team. I liked Deandre but his playoff numbers scare the day lights outta me.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
If Doc goes to LA, I wish him nothing but the worst possible luck in all of his future professional endeavors.

Seems petty? Sue me.

If we get two first round picks in the deal I won't hold a grudge.

If he ends up coaching a team that traded for KG and Pierce I would be less upset about his move.

would seem kind of petty to me for Doc to want to jump ship and join a "condendor" after he signed a 5year deal and STATED that he would be here for rebuilding.

but whatever...if he wants to leave, hopefully he decides to do so before all the quality coaches on the market are gone

I'd GLADLY take two first round picks for Doc.  LA would be stupid to do this, it's not like Doc is going to push that overrated team to championship contender status.

I agree.  I like Doc.  I think he's done a nice job here.  I think he's a top coach in the NBA.  But I don't think he's gone so far and above his duty to the Celtics that we need to do him any favors.  While we can look at everything he's done for the Celtics, we also have to look at what the Celtics gave him.  He certainly made out pretty sweetly in 2008 being given three future Hall of Famers.  Could every coach have done what he did?  No.  But others could have.

I guess another way of looking at it is this: he's not Bill Belichick.  I mean if Brady got a career-ending injury today and it was clearly the Pats were going to stink for a long time, I could see Kraft doing B.B. a favor and letting him out of his contract to pursue another opportunity.  After all, Belichick has turned the Patriots into best NFL team since of the new millennium and he went into his current contract under the assumption that Brady would be around awhile.

Doc on the other hand is a good, but not great, coach who won 1 title and had a good run.  He didn't transform the Celtics franchise and he's not a career Celtic like a Tommy Heinsohn.  In fact, the case could be made that the Celtics transformed him into the coach he is today.  And he signed his new contract well aware of the rebuilding process (and was even quoted on it).

So if Doc wants to go and the C's find something amenable to them letting him go, that's great.  But they shouldn't be cutting him any breaks or doing him any favors.
