Quote
A league source also told the Times that the Celtics might ask the Clippers for two first-round draft picks over a three- or four-year period in exchange for Rivers. But it’s reasonable to believe the Celtics would want multiple players as well as draft picks, too.

A couple of 1st rd picks is a nice haul, but if we could somehow grab Bledsoe too then that would be a great move. This coming from a Doc supporter.
Are his "sources" in Major League Baseball? Because the league the Celtics play in certainly doesn't allow trading staff contracts.

I've never heart of Baxter Holmes before. His credibility with me is a complete zero.

He's a C's beat writer for the Globe. He was actually citing a report from the LA Times. That said, Marc Stein has an article with similar info (a couple of posts above).

As for the trade, no, players can't be traded for a coach. So in order to do so we would have to send contracts back, but the contracts would only be to receive the player(s) since the real return for LAC would be Doc.
Its questionable if the league would allow that since its basically an end run around the rules of the CBA but I guess in the NBA, anything is possible.

It has happened before (Miami and SVG). It's not really a trade of the coach, per se -- I guess it's just the team agreeing to release their coach as a side term to an actual deal (in the Miami case, that was just swapping some picks around, I think).

Miami and New York for Riley too. Where a 1st rd pick and cash went to NY. However, unlike the situation with Doc, I'm uncertain if Riley was still under contract.

Time for Ainge to sh!t or get off the pot!
I think this applies to Doc moreso than Ainge.  At this point, Ainge holds all the cards.  If Doc wants to leave the Celts, he has to either retire (and give up the money) or go with the program.  Ainge already has a coach under contract for the next three seasons.

if I'm DA  I'm brutal in letting Glen go.......no way I let him out without receiving a star player, or several NICE draft pic......
I f they Glen now......it will cost that team dearly,    very dearly ........

Rivers is a pile of dog pellets.......but I wouldn't let him out of his contract without Huge compensation........

take em. to the cleaners Danny

I would want the number 25 this year and there next two number one picks unprotected.  They are going to stink when KG and PP retire.

I say skip the #25, but I'd want two future firsts with "reverse protection" (have to be better than 15th; if its 15-30 it gets rolled over).

It would be nice to get some compensation, but from an ownership perspective, we'd be "compensated" by getting out of a $21 million salary commitment for a coach who isn't interested in overseeing a rebuilding effort.
