Nowitzki, new generation of Larry Bird style.

You're selling Larry short.  He was a better defender, rebounder, and passer than Dirk.

Exactly what Roy said. Bird was superior in all 3 of those categories to Dirk.

To say superior or inferior you have to show some stats. But I am talking bout similarity.

My favorites are the highly skilled athletic swings. The guys who can put up 20+/5+/5+ on a nightly basis while scoring from anywhere on the floor. The 90's were full of them, (Jordan(the first?), Penny, McGrady, VC, etc) but that has really died down. Kobe is the last of them still playing at a really high level, IMO.

You have to have both skill and athleticism to pull stuff like that off.

Career averages:

Dirk - 8.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.9 steals

Larry - 10.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.7 steals

But, if your argument is that your "type" is tall blonde guys who are amazing shooters, then I can't fault you.

I'M THE SILVERBACK GORILLA IN THIS MOTHER... AND DON'T NONE OF YA'LL EVER FORGET IT!

PG's like Curry and college Jimmer who can take over games with their shooting, but are also effective PG's.

The rebounds are pretty close when you figure in the faster pace in the 80's plus the fact that Bird averaged a couple more minutes per game over his career.  But, yeah, Bird's passing and team defense set him apart.

These guys are super talented but a high percentage of them seem to be divas.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
My favorite player/s are the players who, are not superstars on their teams but are vital parts of their success.

I believe that a team needs a superstar or two, but needs atleast three of four of these guys to win.

A.) A wing who can defend and shoot efficiently when left wide open. He doesn't have to be in the league leaders of steals (but of course if he is, it's a bonus), he just needs to be pesky enough to bother other wings, making every shot they take contested.

B.) A big who can rebound plenty and has good hands or a sweet mid range stroke (it's a bonus to have both but I'd take one of the other) and plays tough. Like the wing, he does not have to be a very good shot blocker (again, an extra gravy if he does), he just needs to be tough, a guy who will challenge every shot inside, assumes every shot is a miss and box outs all the time and not get pushed around in the block.

If you have role players like that, even with just one Superstar, winning is easy.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
I love anybody who can go to work in the post. This can range from PGs to Cs - Billups, Payton, Dantley ( ;D), McHale, Hakeem, etc.

I just love post play. A beautiful up and under from Al Jefferson will make me "ooh" more than a thunderous dunk from Lebron.

It's one of the greatest feelings in the world when you do a move, completely fake your opponent out, and embarrass them with an easy finish.

I like Marcus Smart

Players who are excellent on both ends of the floor are my favorites.  Hakeem is my favorite player of all time

Current players:
Rondo
Chris Paul
Kobe
Lebron
Paul George
Pierce
Duncan
KG
Marc Gasol

A few notes on my feelings on those players:
-Kobe and Pierce I enjoyed watching a lot more a couple years ago as they are tailing off on the defensive end lately
-Chris Paul and Pierce's flopping really bothers me at times
-Rondo's huge flaw in shooting (which is what the sport is essentially all about) bothers me too

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

I also enjoy a good underrated player who plays the game extremely hard like Nate Robinson, Mike Conley, Tony Allen, Kawhi Leonard, Brandon Bass, Tyson Chandler

p.s. There's a starting lineup right there without a single max contract player... how good would that team be?
