Grizzlies won't offer Hollins a new contract

Seems like a really cheap move by the Grizzlies. Guy leads you to 56 wins (franchise best) and a trip to the WCF. Just not a winning move right here...

You really have to wonder what teams expect of coaches, only one team can win the title and it is not an easy thing to achieve.

I'm surprised. He got his team in tha Western Conference Finals. Yeah they got swept but how many times have tha Griz made tha Conference Finals? Hollins did a good job with those players before and after tha Rudy Gay trade.

firstly its *the, sorry i just hate when people use tha and da. Im nitpicking here.

Secondly i remember hearing on mike and mike in the morning that if Doc leaves boston, apart from pop, spo is the next best tenured coach for a team.....NBA teams go through coaches like they are toilet paper these days. Carlisimo got the exact same result Avery Johnson would have if he stayed on as coach.

Put some faith into the people you employ!!!

I know its a little different here but seriously. the coaches of our AFL league get ragged on every year. One club has had like 3 coaches in the past 5 years. how are you ever going to get consistency from your players when stuff like that keeps changing. At what point do players take some responsibility. If CP3 has a bad game is it his fault. or was is del negro's fault.....

There is bad coaching i understand that. But really to essentially fire guys like Hollins and Karl. Who had great years!!!! Like someone else said before. Memphis just had its best season ever!!! and the coach got fired. Whats it gonna be like for the new coach?

Whether this has any merit or not, there have been multiple articles reading that Hollins doesn't gel with the advanced stats enthusiasm that Memphis has.

So it may be a fit problem for them, rather than anything substantial. Clearly it isn't based on anything as "base" and "unsophisticated" as wins, playoff or otherwise.

Completely agree with this. Hollins is one of the last guys I'd have pegged to lose their job

I think the suggestion that Memphis decided "not to offer" a new contract is a bit misleading.  They have been negotiating for weeks.  It just appears that Memphis didn't want to pay Hollins like the elite coach he has proven to be (probably something close to Doc Rivers money).  So, they are going to move on, and find someone cheaper.  And he will go and get paid by a franchise that is willing to pay for someone of his caliber.

This has nothing to do with money or results.

It's simply a differing of opinions between Hollinger and Hollins, as to the way to build/coach the the team.

Hollinger is a moron who is too tied to his "stats".

Yeah, I'll continue using "tha". But to your last point I don't really see anyone available that will top what Hollins did unless they hire Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan turns back tha lock and suits up for tha Grizzlies.

I don't know that. Historically, he's been more right than not...and certainly with the Grizzlies, Memphis was initially flayed for trading Rudy Gay and it ended up being a fairly brilliant move.
