Chauncey Billups Interested in HEAT

By HOOPSWORLD
Basketball News & NBA Rumors

The Miami Heat went after Chauncey Billups before last season but weren’t able to get him. They soon will have another chance.

The veteran point guard will become a free agent July 1. He said he then will consider the Heat.

“Of course, I would have interest in Miami, of course,’’ Billups told FOX Sports Florida after having received the NBA’s inaugural Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award prior to Sunday night’s Game 2 of the NBA Finals at AmericanAirlines Arena

Miami, where aging, oft-injured stars who can still hit a spot up jumper go to try to win a championship.

Would they have interest in him though?  I am not sure he is better than the guards they already have.

Makes sense. Wouldn't see why any veteran wouldn't want to go to Miami.

Maybe if Ray opts out?

They will need to prioritize spending whatever exceptions they have on bringing back or replacing Chris Anderson though.

Billups can help Cs team much better than going to stay on the bench @MIAMI

Why doesn't every NBA player just go to Miami? ???

The day Lebron, Wade and Bosh teamed up in Miami is the day the NBA was ruined forever.

Billups couldn't beat out Mario Chalmers or Norris Cole for minutes at PG in Miami.

He won't improve them any.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
Seems like it would be Mike Bibby 2.0 for Miami...Chauncey's days of playing at a high level are probably over.

Classic ring latch on at the twlight of a career...  At least has won some prior.

I've long been a big Chauncey Billups fan.  I would be very disappointed if he joined the Heat in the twillight of his career.

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Come on everybody let's go to play in miami. I heard there was a great retirement resort and you can have a ring if you get lucky. What? The salary? Who cares! You can go to the beach and party all you want while watching Lebron and wade do it all anyway...

What a joke, they can't be serious.

Let's not act like the Celtics didn't sign their fair share of aged veterans when they were contenders.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

There's  also the fact that the Heat do a couple of things that are important for most people who play or have played basketball in any competitive capacity.

They win most of their games, and they play fun basketball. And they do it in a warm place with a great nightlife and no income tax. And as close of a guarantee of a long post-season as you can get in a league like the NBA.

And you get to play with the best player in the world.
It's the doctor J effect:

Quote
Teammates speak of him with healthy degrees of awe and camaraderie. Marc Iavaroni, a marginal forward cut by a couple of lesser NBA clubs before catching on as a "role player" in the Sixers' system, says, "Playing with the Doc? Don't pinch me, please. He looks for me. On and off the court. Can you imagine that! Dr. J looking to pass off to Marc Iavaroni? Know how that makes me feel?"

As said earlier, especially if you've already got a ring, why wouldn't you want to play in Miami? It sure beats the heck out of slogging your way through a 35 win season in some miserable place like Minnesota or Milwaukee.

Also, based on the exact wording of the quote (starting and ending with 'of course') and the location of the interview-prior to the kick-off of Game 2, makes me believe that Thomason (the fox reporter) asked him something like

"Any chance you'd be interested in signing with Miami?"

And then laughed himself all the way to a newly-minted headline.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.
