1) Jeff Van Gundy

2) Jerry Sloan

No way to Brian Shaw, he's laker scum and even they didn't want him as coach.

Please don't leave any opinion on the Doc situation.
If he is gone, then who is the best candidate for the job?
Also keep in mind if Doc is gone then KG and Pierce are likely both gone too, so it's probably rebuild/re-tool time.

Stan Van Gundy or Nate McMillan for me...although they'd prefer playoff teams.

Any young up and comers we can roll the dice on?

Assuming the quote in red to be the case, then rebuild (blow-up) or re-tool will determine the coach we should get.

If it's re-tool, my choices, in order are:

1. Sloan
2. Karl
3. Either Van Gundy

If it's rebuild, hire JKidd, who wants a coaching job. (although the chants he and his wife endured while playing at the Garden here may have eliminated that option.)Who cares how many games we lose then.

This.

Would love to swipe Rick Carlisle but don't see that ever happening

SVG.

He is familiar with the current opposing teams' performances and players.

I'd want to see what the roster is like, and which direction they are going in first.

Do not want Franks. Would want Shaw, either of the Van Gundy's, or Bird.

Van Gundy (either), Shaw, or Karl(yes I don't care)

I think JVG might love to coach KG...

Not for nothing, but in the middle of the 1988-89 season as he was enjoying a nice rookie season alongside if someone had told me that our first round pick, Brian Shaw would (a) bolt for Italy at the end of the year, (b) bounce aroud the League but wind up on the LA Lakers and win 3 rings and (c) 13 years after that LAL run (where he'd later serve as an assistant coach and win 2 more Laker rings) .... THEN come back and coach the Celtics, my head would have exploded  ;D

as of right now, doc is our coach.  until he says otherwise, its a mood point.

for the sake of discussion, I would like jeff van gundy or kenny smith (if he wants to coach).

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? Also, Brian Shaw right now is one of the most sought after coaches in the NBA.

Same here.  Not sure why anybody would want Lawrence Franks after the two losing seasons he had in Detroit.

He also wasn't a very good assistant coach in Boston either.

I'd try to go after Lionel Hollins, although my guess is he'd prefer a team more ready to compete next year.

For a rebuild, I'd look to find whoever the best young assistant coach is.

This is my thoughts from a March thread:

"if i go with a current college coach, its jay wight at nova or shaka stevens at vcu.  I believe doc will be around a few more years thus allowing these two to gain more experience.

if i go with a current or former nba coach, call me crazy, i like pj and believe he'd be available.  i also like svg and mike dunleavy."

I don't beleive a college coach would be brought in, and now that I see who's available, I would look at PJ, Karl, and SVG as my top three.

won't be bird.  he really wants an ownership role (especially after being screwed in charlotte), so much, he's looking to go to the kings to get it.
