I will say i am ready to hear some rumors though. I am sick of this quiet period. Now we don't know what is going to happen. These Finals can't end soon enough, so we can figure out what direction we are heading.

Guessing he's waiting for KG's decision first.  That's the first domino, just like it was last offseason.

On the one hand it'd be pretty crappy if we had to scramble for a coach so late in the game.  On the other, if KG's gone, so is Pierce, and then a coach is the least of our problems.

Seems to me it is just a few vocal, impatient fans that are acting all drama over this.

You may not have noticed, but the 2013 season isn't even over yet.  A little patience might do you some good.

Gonna have to wait a couple weeks.  It all comes down to what they do with Pierce.

It shouldn't have to depend on Pierce and KG though. Doc signed a 5 year deal and talked about being a celtic through thick and thin. If he is now trying to play hardball with Ainge to get Pierce and KG back for one more year, Ainge should show him the door.

I agree that it shouldn't be about whether or not Pierce is retained for Doc. 

But we don't know all the details.  Despite what he's said at times, it could be that Doc signed his recent extension having talked to the team ahead of time about the fact that due to his family situation he was going to have to reevaluate each year.  He may not feel like he has it in him to do his best next year all things considered.  That may be especially the case if they let go of Pierce and that results in KG going elsewhere (or retiring) too.  Doc may feel that somebody else is better suited to deal with the resulting situation.

It doesn't have to be a matter of selfishness or going back on promises.

I think the point of the long-term deal was to give him job security.  Maybe he wasn't completely sure that he would stick around for a rebuilding period, but he probably wanted to know that if he did stick around, he wasn't likely to be fired for having a couple of losing seasons.

I'm saying it's like giving KG a no-trade clause.  Only a fool would try to force Garnett to play if he decided to retire before the conclusion of his contract.

The Nuggets fired George Karl rather than give him a contract extension that would give Karl a sense of security.  Ainge decided the Celtics were better off doing what was necessary to bring back both Doc and Garnett.

He's said many times that after a season ends he needs a couple weeks distance from the season to decide such matters. It's been much more than that, there's something else going on.
