Wizards looking to trade #3 pick for Ersan Ilyasova

The Wizards have reportedly "explored" the possibility of trading their No. 3 pick to the Bucks for Ersan Ilyasova.
The rumor was mentioned by Bucks writer Gery Woelfel during a radio interview this week, and was then "confirmed" and passed along by Sam Amico. Ilyasova makes some sense for Washington, especially given John Wall's recent comment that the Wizards need a power forward who can "pick and pop," but we're firmly in the embryonic-rumor stage. Amico suggests that if such a deal did materialize, other players and picks would be involved.

Reminiscent of that #5 pick (Ricky Rubio) they gave up for Mike Miller.

I don't see this one working out any better for them than the last one did. Bad management.

Bucks could draft Otto Porter or Oladipo as the SF of the future while Ariza takes over the starting spot for the mean time.

Then they keep one of their two score-first guards, re-sign Redick, and they've got a decent-ish sort of group there.

The bucks could make themselves into a very young exciting team with Sanders, Henson, and Porter as their core going forward.

They might be slightly worse this season if they jettison their black holes of a back court, but I think they will be  more fun to watch and have a much brighter future.

I mean I understand they have no depth in the 3 spot but I have this feeling they're moving up for Burke instead.

No that makes complete sense given they expect to lose both Jennings and Ellis and will try to keep Reddick. Noel and McLemore(sp?) seem a pretty sure bet for the top two picks, so you are probably right Yoki. Milwaukee, if they got that third pick, would probably target Burke.

Eh, it kinda does make sense for Washington.

They were a .500 team when Wall was playing, which is better than the Bucks.

Wall - Beal - Singleton/Webster - Ilyasova - Nene could be an interesting group, if they can cobble together a competent bench.

Ilyasova is probably a better fit next to Nene than Okafor.  They do need some more floorspacing on that squad, though it compromises their defensive identity.

If the Wiz think Ilyasova is a better player for the next 4-5 years than Porter / Oladipo would be, it's not such a bad play.  They're paying Nene a lot of money and he's only going to be a productive player for a few more years.

The issue for the Wizards is they already have a ton of young players jostling for playing time.  They need to start putting together some competitive seasons so the young guys they already have can start learning how to win together.


It should also be noted -- Ilyasova is a much more valuable player than Mike Miller.

I don't know if this is what Washington needs to do, but I think they need to do something.  You don't want your best player and leader to become comfortable losing and we may have already entered that.

I don't think that's fair.

When Wall played this year, the Wizards were basically a .500 team.  He definitely makes his team better when he plays and there's no evidence that he's given up on them or anything like that.  I mean, he had a monster stretch in the latter half of this season.

I'd be more concerned that a player like Demarcus Cousins has gotten too used to playing losing ball.

But in general I don't really buy that certain guys are "losers" or whatever.  Usually you say that right up until a guy joins a good team with a coach who is good enough to use him right.  Then, assuming he buys in, he's a really valuable player.  Example: Zach Randolph, Big Al Jefferson.

Some players are selfish and they generally make their teams worse.  E.g. Michael Beasley.  But usually players like that just aren't that great to begin with.  There's no question that John Wall is a really talented and productive player.

I know this isn't the greatest return for the wiz but I like the trade. They get a pf who fits really well with there current playoff hopeful team and at 15 they could draft Larkin. With Wall having good size at the point he and Larkin could play at the same time. This would give them a nice really young guard rotation. Beal,illyasova, and Larkin s shooting work well with Wall penetration
