If youre going to deal with the Celtics who are out natural rivals, or the Lakers, the two teams that have won the most championships in the NBA, they're always going to make deals where they get the better end of the deal. Thats been their history, thats how they presently are and that's how theyre going to be in the future.

As an attorney I have a real problem with this.  Not the part you posted but this part,

"When you talk to the Lakers, when you talk to the Celtics, when you talk to -- well, those two in particular -- the guy on the other end of the phone has his fingers crossed," Erving told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "So whatever he's telling you, he's not telling you the truth."

Dr. J is an employee of an NBA team and he just called the Celtics liars, ok and the Lakers too but they actually have a beef with the Lakers.  Have they traded with the Celtics?  I'd file a complaint with Stern and if we don't get satisfaction I'd file a law suit against the 76ers and Dr. J personally.

Didn't the Celtics just get a draft pick awarded to them because the Thunder didn't disclose information they had a duty to disclose about Green's heart?  How are the Celtics dishonest?

I agree. Just because the sixers were dumb enough to trade for Bynum doesn't mean they can now call the celtics liars. Focus on the lakers and even the magic for crying out loud!!! We are not the team that robbed you. When have we ever even made a trade with the sixers in recent history? They are trying to give Ainge and co. a bad rep so that Danny doesn't construct a contender in their own division again. They didn't talk about the knicks because they know their management is even more stupid than they are.

Julius,

It's called doing your due dilligence.  Your team clearly didn't.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
So basically if you get bamboozled in a trade by our management, doesn't it mean our management is far far more superior than your management?

A trade is a trade. You don't hear people complaining about trades until it happens.

It isn't even that he is complaining about a trade that bothers me.  He is impugning the integrity of the Celtics which hurts their brand and its value, as well as hurting the reputation of the Celtics around the League, potentially making them unable to pull of a trade.  The fact that he is an employee, not a smart one apparently, of a team competing with the Celtics makes this waaaaay out of bounds.

I don't think I've ever heard a front office person make comments like these about an opponent before.  If this stands it will start being open season on mudslinging.

It's called libel or slander.   I would get on the phone with their respective corporate attornies as he cannot say things like that.  Who knows what the financial impact of those statements are but they will financially affect the c's and lakers.

Well, he does have a point about the lakers, they did trade them a player who can't play anymore. Naming the celtics is flat out slander though.

Hey, how was Dr J supposed to know that the guy with multiple knee surgeries had bad knees?

He's right in general that the Cs and Lakers didn't get all those rings by losing trades.  But the stuff about dishonesty just comes across as bitter and whiny.

I think it's great that Dr.J is stirring the pot. The Celtics-Sixers rivalry used to be one of the greatest rivalries in sports.

Wish I could get worked up about what he said.

Sue.

That seems like a massive over-reaction.

Maybe I am missing something, but what trade did we do with the 76'ers or anyone else where we deliberately misled the trading partner?  I get it, Dr. J is miffed that the sixers lost big time on the Bynum trade.  What exactly does that have to do with the Cs?  I read the article and he doesn't mention any specific trade with Boston.

I agree it does seem fairly inappropriate mudslinging.  And as we are in process of re-tooling / rebooting our team, we don't need any misrepresentations out there...

no it is not overreaction at all. It is actionable slander. Infact since it has to do with professional reputation it is slander PER SE!!!

He just hates the Celtics.  He's just this guy from the past reminding us of what we used to have.
