Dallas sends: Marion, Kaman, #13

Boston Sends: Pierce, Melo

Reason for Dallas: from all reports I have read, they are looking to unload this pick for cap savings. On top of that, Pierce's contract I think is alot more valuable to other teams then we may realize. Teams that trade for pierce, if they cut him, basically get a free 65-70% cut on a max salary or combined salaries that they either want to she's or just didn't work out. Dallas would probably cut pierce, saving them a ton of cap space to make a run at their free agents they want.

Reason for Boston: the main reason is getting 2 #1 picks in a draft that are still pretty valuable. I think if ainge can get a first rounder for pierce a trade will absolutely happen. On top of the pick, we get a solid Center, probably starter worthy for our team, and a player in Marion who is a solid 6th man and can do alot of the same things pierce does with more speed, athleticism, defense.
We then draft rondos little brother Schroeder at 13, and at 16 draft shabazz Mohammed for scoring.

One last note, I read that if pierce is traded and then waived, we could use the bi annual on him. Is there any truth to that?

Rondo, Schroeder
Bradley, shabazz, terry, lee
Green, Marion
Sullinger, Green, KG
KG, Kaman

This is one of the few trades on here that I'd be down with.

Does it work out monetarily?

Kaman is a free agent so he would need to be signed and then traded by Dallas. Not sure you can add a sign and trade player to a deal with others...

Based on what? Why would they want Marion over Pierce?

That return is decent... not good enough though. I want a top 50 or potential top 50 player in return for Pierce. We almost received one near the trade deadline in Smith; might have to revisit that. Eric Gordon would be another...

If you can't get one in return, you try to persuade Pierce to exercise his option so he can sign an extension at a cap friendly price w/ a no trade clause (Pierce is still a top 40 player and he could've easily been an all star if not for the C's record at the time and Rondo and KG already making it). If he doesn't want to resign and can't find a top 50 player to trade him for, you just let him play it out (Pierce will play his value up during the year and you'll have desperate suitors at the trade deadline).

Problem is that Kaman is an unrestricted free agent.  There's no point to including him in the trade.   Here's my trade idea from a thread a couple days ago:

Dallas really wants cap space, right?

Could we trade them Paul Pierce (15 mil) for:

Shawn Marion - 9 mil
Vince Carter - 3 mil
Jared Cunningham (22 year old SG picked #24 last year) - 1.2 mil
#13 pick

...

Dallas could then release Pierce and would then only have the following under contract:

Dirk - 22.7 mil
Money leftover for Pierce - 5 mil

Total about 28 mil.  OJ Mayo is opting out of his contract.  Dallas would have 30 million to offer free agents.  They could target both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard as a package deal.  They'd have Chris Paul, Dwight and Dirk for a year... then the next year Dirk falls off the books and they can go after LeBron.

From Boston's perspective, we are rebuilding anyways.  Marion and Carter expire at the end of the year... we could float them at the deadline.  The #13 pick and Cunningham are just a couple minor assets we get for dumping Pierce.  We can use them towards our rebuild.  Could also try to package #13 + #16 and move up a bit in the draft.

Lol... Pierce is 36 years old with a foot in retirement.  We're more likely to just release him for the cap savings than get anything substantial for him.  At this point, even the idea that we can get the #13 pick for him is a bit of a stretch, but Dallas would potentially give up the pick to free up enough cap space to make a run at Dwight and CP3.

Dallas definitely doesn't want Marion.  If they could get marion off the books they could free up enough cap space to potentially go after both Dwight and Chris Paul at the same time.

Likewise, they probably have no interest in Pierce as a player at this point... if they did this trade it would be because Pierce only has 5 million guaranteed on his deal if they release him.
