This is a really good article that shows how Bird built this Pacer team. The Roy Hibbert part is mind boggling. Bird should get Executive of the year again!!!

Bird has done a great job with that team.

Still, although Paul George and Roy Hibbert is a great core to have -- I expect that team to win 50+ for a while -- I'm not sure yet that it's a championship core.

I still can't help feeling that the way the Pacers have played in this series is due in large part to some pretty enormous matchup advantages they have in the paint.  Paul George is a really nice player and would be against any opponent, though.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

No doubt, that's impressive.  The Pacers are a good case in point against tanking.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Won't happen, of course.  But how I'd love to have Bird here as GM, with McHale coaching.

Danny could be the useful sidekick and irritant he was back in the day.

Doc can pal around with Steven A. at the broadcast desk.

Red drafted smart players, not just athletic players...smart enough to learn from and emulate the best, and I consider Red one of the Best.

Ex-Celtics players have been particularly successful in their second basketball related careers.

I love Bird but I think he stole David West from us and copied from DA several times.  The man has an excellent basketball IQ though.

good call. bird is a great executive...but...ainge still has one more championship as gm than does bird.  :D

i am happy with ainge as the celtics gm. i am curious what he will be doing this draft since the level of talent seems fairly flat from #10 through #25ish. this is the sort of draft that may play to ainge's strengths.

I never have understood the West theories. He came out and said the rumors were overblown:

Great celtics players of the past know what it takes to be a celtics.  They transmit the ethics and their knowledge and that is what can make the balance in our favor. Specially with the new CBA rules where franchises tend to level up. You have to find difference maker. I think McHale will be that kind of guy one day.

The new Kings owner is a very smart dude--and it took him no time to decide to feel out Bird's interest in GM-ing again.
