I would say you need at least 8 years on the team, and to retire with the team to be eligible for the rafters, The other question is does KG go  to the Hall as a Celtic or  Timberwolf?

KG had a long run in Minnesota and accumulated most of his career numbers there so there is a case to be made that he is more of a Minnesota guy, but the fact that he won a ring with Boston and really embraced the team as a leader makes him a Celtic through and through. My concern is if he is traded to another team it puts a dent in his Celtic resume I respect KG too much to say why, and this may be the difference between whether you retire the number or not. So for me playing his career out in Boston and retiring as a Celtic should put his number in the rafters.

Once he does that then it becomes his call what 'colors he wears' in Cooperstown. Might be a tough choice for him, I dont know.

1.  There's no strict criteria.  There are guys who played less than eight years for the Celtics, and there are guys who didn't retire in Green.  I think KG should have his number retired, for his overall contribution to changing the Celtics culture.  He has defined this championship era.

2.  Players don't get inducted into the Basketball HOF wearing any specific uniform.

3.  The HOF is in Springfield, MA, not Cooperstown.

Thanks for the corrections.

There is a sense when they are inducted though that they represent a certain team. I guess KG can use McHale to represent both the Celtics and the Wolves.

Honestly I don't even remember him playing for the Wolves anymore. It feels like he's been a Celtic his whole career. I'm pretty sure more casual fans remember him more as a Celtic as well.

KG means so much more to the Celtics and its culture than simple time served.

He'll be in the rafters for both teams, not even a debate.

He was the primary reason we got our first championship since 1986.  He changed the culture and was the centerpiece of a very competitive 6 year epoch in this team's history.

KG is absolutely rafter material.

My criteria for him was at least 2 titles or 6 years at a high level of play.  didn't get the 2 titles but he's got the time in.  #5 will be up there at some point.

Guaranteed lock.

An all time great who self identifies as a Celtic and won a title here over the Lakers.

Wyc said he'll make sure that 34 and 5 will be retired numbers in boston.
As for minessota, it's up to them.

while KG has been a great celtic, i just dont see him as a celtic when thinking of his career.  i think of him as a timberwolf.  im willing to guess the majority of people (around the world), when they think of kg, in relation to his entire career, see it the same way.  i could be wrong, just my two cents
