According to Felger and Mazz (they are going to have the Audio soon) Doc went on Steven A. Smith's show and said he cannot commit to next season with the Celtics yet.

This is obviously the opposite of what the Celtics have been saying.  Also, it lends a little credibility to Steven A. Smith as why would Doc go on his show if he was spewing lies about him unless he was going to set him straight?  Which he did not do.

P.S. I don't know if there's a better thread for this or if it deserves it's own so feel free to move it.

Ugh!  Kill this thread. Felger and Mazz got it wrong.  The quote they had was from the Celtics last game not todays interview.  My bad for jumping the gun.  But apparently he did not confirm he's coming back and Steven A. didn't ask.

He CANNOT commit to the Celtics next year?????????????

Isn't he signed for SEVERAL MORE YEARS????????????????

Who does he think he is?

I would demand an answer RIGHT NOW if I were Danny.  We should NOT have to go thru this EVERY year.  Other teams do NOT go thru this bull!!!

Losing Doc is not that huge a deal for me!!!  Perhaps Doc is becoming too big for his britches and the Celtics.  If so, let's QUICKLY cut ties!!

Bye bye Doc.  You are really an average coach.

Makes me think Doc really wants KG and Paul back, but Ainge is on the fence.

This is just me speculating, but, I suspect Ainge will try to keep KG/Paul if he can bolster the roster around them.  If Ainge cannot, he probably moves Paul, which will lead to KG retiring or accepting a trade.  All of this will lead to Doc walking away.

FWIW, Doc could pretty much have any open job he wants right now, and probably many jobs already filled.

Average my tukus!

OK, I will just review the facts here:

1. On May 7, SAS floats the "Doc, KG and Pierce to the Clips" rumor: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1631957-stephen-a-smith-starts-ridiculous-kg-pierce-and-doc-to-clippers-trade-rumor.

2. On May 10 he gives advance warning of the Nets' request to talk with Doc: http://clnsradio.com/boston-celtics-news/item/6867-stephen-a-smith-talks-again-doc-rivers-being-recruited-by-the-brooklyn-nets.

3. On May 17, SAS again hints that Doc is thinking about leaving: http://www.celticsblog.com/2013/5/17/4342328/stephen-a-smith-back-with-more-doc-rivers-rumors.

Then today we have the appearance by Doc...in which *absolutely none* of this comes up.

I see two possible explanations for that:

1. SAS was afraid to mention any of it because he fabricated it all, and didn't want Doc to rake him over the coals;
2. Doc specifically made it a condition of his appearance on the show that SAS could not ask any questions about this stuff.

Interesting. I will give Smith credit though; even though none of the rumors were discussed, this gives him some credibility he didn't have before, in the sense that if Doc were really angry, he would probably just not appear at all.

Thoughts?

Stephen A. Smith may be loud, may be obnoxious, and certainly gets predictions wrong all the time, but he is also very well connected and when he talks about rumors he does so only with very credible sources.

I agree with Moranis, based on personal experience. He's got the connections.

SAS is def obnoxious and has a tendency to talk out his rear....but is def well connected.  He can schmooze with the best of them.  He tries to be friends with everyone.  He's personable.
